This invention relates to a package of tape and sewing thread, and to a method of preparing same.
The object of the invention is to produce a neat, compact, and attractive package contain ing thread wound on a spool and tape wrapped about a holder, with the spool mounted on the tape holder, and the whole enclosed in a Wrapper of transparent material such as cellophane.
In the drawing- Fig. 1 is a plan View of the package embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3' is a plan view of the tape holder.
In that embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing, the tape holder consists of a rectangular piece of cardboard cut out to form an aperture 11 corresponding, substantially, to the longitudinal cross sectional area of the spool to be mounted on the holder 10. The upper and lower edges of the cardboard surrounding the aperture 11 are provided with tongues 12 The spool 13 is preferably longer and smaller in diameter than conventional spools of thread, so as to harmonize with the holder and form a relatively flat and thin package. The spool 13 is provided with a central bore 14 so that it may be mounted on a sewing machine spindle. The spool 13 with thread 15 thereon is mounted on the holder 10 by inserting the tongues 12, 12, in opposite ends of the bore 14 of the spool.
The holder 10, carrying the spool 13, is next placed in a tape winding machine, where the tape 16 is wrapped about the holder 10, longitudinally thereof, as shown in Fig. 1.
A label 17 may be placed transversely about the holder, spool and tape, and preferably the label is cut away to expose the spool of thread through the face of the label, the label ends being fastened together at the opposite side of the package.
A wrapper 18 of transparent material is folded 6 about the package and neatly fastened on the side opposite the face of the package.
The package of my invention provides a convenient assembly of the parts and since the tape fabric and sewing thread are usually dyed by the same manufacturer, the colors of the tape and thread to be placed in a package may be perfectly matched, and the user is saved the trouble of selecting the articles separately and matching them as to color.
In using the word tape herein, I intend to include ribbons and similar articles made of cotton, silk, rayon and the like.
Changes may be made in details or" construction without departing from the scope of my invention and I do not intend to be limited to the exact form shown and described, except as set forth in the appended claim.
I claim:-
A package of tape and sewing thread comprising a cylindrical, longitudinally bored spool, thread wound on the spool, a flat holder provided with an aperture adapted to receive the spool of thread when disposed with its axis par allel to and in alignment with the surface of the holder, oppositely positioned tongues on the holder extending into the aperture and into the bore of the spool, a wrapper apertured to disclose the spool and extending transversely around the package, and a transparent wrapper envei oping the whole.
