' 1 Claims. (01. 200-56) The invention relates to holders for lipsticks, and the like, and has for its principal object the provision of means whereby the lipstick will always he held in position for immediate use including means for yieldingly moving the lipstick out of its container and to automatically hold the lipstick for use.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a lipstick holder including a casing to contain the lipstick and provided with a spring actuated follower normally tending to project the lipstick outwardly of the casing, and including clamping devices pivotally mounted in the casing to engage'the lipstick and hold it from movement by the spring actuated follower, and a cover slidably engaging the casing and provided with means to release the clamping devices when the cover is engaging the casing and thereby permit reaction of the spring actuated follower to automatically adjust the lipstick for reuse on removal of the cover.

The construction and operation of the invention will be described in detail hereinafter and the construction will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the lipstick holder,

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view,

Figure 3 is a similar view with the cover removed,

Figure 4 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view on a plane indicated by the line l4 of Figure 1, and

-Figures 5, 6, and 7 are transverse sectional views on planes indicated by the lines 55, li6, and |-'I, respectively of Figure 3.

In the drawing similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts in all of the views.

The improved lipstick holder includes a cylindrical casing It! made preferably of sheet metal and having a bottom section II secured thereto by means of a seam l2 and provided with a reduced extension l3 to receive the thrust of a spring I4 mounted in the casing and having the other end of the spring secured to a cup-shaped follower IS in which is seated the lower end of a lipstick I 6, said spring and follower tending to normally project the lipstick outwardly of the ,open end I! of the casing.

The outer. free ends of the arcuate clamping members I 9 are provided with flanges 24 that extend rearwardly of said clamping members and are inclined outwardly of the casing as shown.

The container also includes a cover having a tubular portion 25 and a closed end 26 that is secured by means of a seam 21 to said tubular portion 25 and having a reduced extension 28 providing a shoulder 29, that when the cover is placed in position by sliding it on the tubular member 10, said shoulder 29 engages the flanges 24 to open the arcuate clamping members l9 so that the spring actuated follower I5 may project the free end of the lipstick l6 into the reduced portion 28 until stopped by the closed end thereof.

The operation of the device is as follows:

When the cover is removed as shown in Figure 3, the lipstick will be held in the position shown therein. When the cover is returned to position on the open end of the tubular member III, the shoulder 29 will engage the flanges 24, as hereinbefore stated, and moves the clamping members I9 into the position shown in Figure 2, and the lipstick It will be moved forward by the spring l4 and the follower 15 into position for use thereof when the cover is again removed.

I have described the article for use in holding a lipstick, but it will be apparent that any other material in stick form may be substituted therefor, such for instance as chalk, crayon, marking pencils, etc.

What I claim is:- I

1. In a lipstick holder, a casing adapted to contain a lipstick, yielding means-engaging the lipstick to normally project it from the casing, clamping jaws pivotally mounted in said casing and adapted to yieldingly engage the lipstick, spring means jointly engaging said jaws and unitarily moving them into clamping positions, and a cover for the casing provided with means to move said clamping jaws from engaging position.

2. In a lipstick holder, a casing adapted to contain a lipstick, a spring actuated follower in said casing to nor! \ally move the lipstick outwardly of the casing, clamping jaws pivotally mounted in said casing to engage the lipstick and hold it against the action of said follower, spring means jointly engaging said jaws and unitarily moving them into clamping positions, a cover for the casing and provided with means to release the clamping jaws from engaging position.

3. In a holder for lipsticks, an elongated casing, a resiliently actuated follower mounted in said casing and adapted to engage a lipstick, clamping jaws pivotally mounted in said casing,

5 a spring ring, jointly engaging said jaws to yielding jaws pivotally secured in the casing, a spring ring jointly engaging said jaws to yieldingly hold said clamping jaws in engagement with the lipstick, said clamping members having flanges inclined outwardly of the casing, a cover for said casing, and a shoulder on said cover engaging said flanges to release said clamping members from engaging positions.

5. A lipstick holder, comprising a casing, means in the casing mounting a lipstick and normally tending to project it from the casing, arcuate clamping jaws pivotally mounted in the casing, a spring ring jointly engaging said jaws to yieldingly hold them in engagement with the lipstick, a cover slidably engaging the casing, and a shoulder on said cover to engage said jaws and move themfrom engaging positions.

6. A lipstick holder, comprising a casing, a spring actuated follower in the casing to mount a lipstick, arcuate clamping jaws pivotally secured in the casing, a spring actuated ring engaging said jaws to unitarily hold them in engagement with the lipstick, flanges on the free ends of said jaws inclined rearwardly thereof and outwardly of the casing, a cover for the casing provided with a reduced extension providing a shoulder, said shoulder being adapted to engage said flanges to move said jaws from engaging positions.

7. A lipstick holder, comprising a casing, a spring actuated follower in the casing to mount a lipstick, arcuate jaws pivotally secured in the casing, an annular spring member secured at one of its ends to one of the jaws and enclosing said jaws, said spring member unitarily holding the jaws in clamping positions with the lipstick engaged therebetween, outwardly and rearwardly directed flanges on the free ends of said jaws, a cover for the casing, and a circumferential shoulder on said cover to engage said flanges and move the jaws from engaging positions.
