This invention relates to a cigarette or cigar case, which is constructed in such a manner that it is composed of a pluralityof elongated elements, which are provided on their abutting faces 5 with grooves of semi-circular cross section and extending in longitudinal direction. ihese elements are transversely threaded at their ends on a flexible element by means of which the plugs along the grooves are at the same time held.
To insert or remove a cigarette or cigar, the corresponding elongated elements are opened by bending the flexible elements at this point.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows the case in side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a cross section of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the case in perspective view.
According to the invention the case is composed of elongated elements having in their abutting faces grooves b of semi-circular cross section. The two outer elements a have each only one groove which is provided on the inner face. These grooves are closed at their upper and lower ends by plugs c which act at the same time as hinges so that a slipping in longitudinal and also lateral direction is prevented. The elongated elements a are held together by means of flexible elements d, for example, rubber cords or spiral springs extending transversely through the ends of the elements a. The plugs e are likewise threaded on the flexible elements d. The cigarettes or cigars are inserted in the spaces formed by the groovesb of the abutting elongated elements by bending the flexible elements as grates shown in Fig. 3. For removing a cigarette or cigar the flexible elements are bent in the oppo= site direction to that shown in Fig. 3, so that the cigarette or cigar in the space at which the elements (1 are bent drops out.
The outer surface of the case may be provided with printed advertising matter without departing from the scope of the invention.
I claim:---
l. A cigarette or cigar case, comprising in com N bination a plurality of elongated elements ar ranged side by side and each having a longit dinal groove in each of its lateral sides forming with the groove of the adjacent element a cylin- 1 drical compartment, and flexible elements unit-.
ing said elongated elements each of said elongated elements adapted to be turned against the action of said. flexible elements on one of its points oi? contact with its adjacent elongated element to 20 open the compartment formed between these two elongated elements.
