Description
W. H. HOPKINS & M. LLSTEBBINS.
, ym I No.'l99,829. Patented Jan. 29,1878..
INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. HOPKINS AND MARTIN L. STEBBINS, OF WAVERLY, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN B UGGY-TO PS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,829, dated January 29, 1878 application filed December 18, 1877.
connecting and adjusting buggy-tops to the seats, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of our invention. Fig. 2 is a section of a part thereof.
A represents one end of a buggy-seat, to which is attached an iron, B, formed with two arms, B B, extending down on the'inside of the seat and fastened thereto. From the iron B also extend two other arms, B B horizontally outward from the seat, as shown, and these latter arms B are slotted longitudinally.
To the front arm B is fastened a clip, 0, by means of a thumb-nut, I), screwed upon the end of a bolt, a, which extends from the clip downward through the slot in the arm. In the clip 0 is pivoted the bow E, and to the inner side of this bow is pivoted a curved brace, D.
On the rear arm B is fastened an L-shaped bar, H, by means of a bolt, 0, and thumb-nut d. To the upright arm of" the bar H is swiveled a clamp, I. This clamp is swiveled at one end, and fastened by abolt and thumb nut, J, as shown.
The brace D slides, and is adjustable in the clamp I, so as to hold the bow in any desired position by the thumb-nut.
I11 facing a storm or the sun the top may be easily adjusted forward to make a complete protection, and the same arrangement will adjust the top with the storm or sun at the back.
The irons are easily placed upon any seat, and the sliding clip 0 and sliding bar H are easily adjusted to any width of seat.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the adjustable clip 0, bow E, brace D, and adjustable clamp I, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The iron B, with arms B and slotted arms B in combination with the adjustable clip O, adjustable clamp I, curved brace D, and bow E, for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that we claim .the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 1st'day of December, 1877.
