Description

April 9, 1935. A. w. HoAR f ,997,4190
ARMENT HOLDER Filed Aug. e, 1954 f ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 9, V1935 i i UNITED STATES wma PATENT OFFICE This invention relates to garment holders, and n its general object is to providey a holder of the i clamping type that includes cam means to cause the clamping action to increase in accordance with the weight of the garment, so that it is impossible for a garment to fall therefrom regardless of its weight.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment holder that is capable of supporting a number of garments, such as a plurality of pairs of trousers, with the same efficiency as a single pair, in that it is adjustable for that purpose.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment holder of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely efficient in use` and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder Which forms the subject matter `of the present invention. i
Y Figure 2 is an end view thereof. Y
Figure 3 is a fragmentary front view.`
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that my garment holder includes a body I which as shown is in the form of a substantially rectangular block lhaving secured to the ends thereof through the medium of screws or the like,
the upright arms of angle brackets 2 which have their horizontal arms 3 extending forwardly from the body. i
The horizontal arms 3 are provided with notches 4 that extend at an inclination from the upper portions thereof and in a manner to be directed toward the body as clearly shown in Figure 1. The notches of one arm 3 are aligned with the notches of the other arm for cooperation with each other, in a manner which will be presently apparent. i Y
Cooperating with the body l is a roller 5 which has extending from the ends thereof andecoenf trically mounted with respect thereto trunnions 6 having formed on the outer ends thereof heads' l,
the latter being provided with serrated peripheries and actas handles for the roller.
'Ihe trunnions 6 are adapted to be received in any two cooperating notches of the horizontal arms 3 as clearly shown in Figure l, and due to the fact that the trunnions are eccentrically mounted in the ends of the roller 5,'it will. be obvious that the roller acts in the capacity as a cam, and this vcam action is increased due to theV inclination of the notches, as will be apparent upon inspection of Figure 2 whichshows the roller directed toward the body `I and disposed in contacting engagement with a strip of material A to represent a garment, with the reber of notches as shown, it will be apparent that a plurality of pairs of trousers `can be supported by my holder with the same efficiency as a single pair, as the notches allow for the adjustment of i the roller with respect to the body to increase and decrease the space between the same.
Thebody I may have openings arranged therein to receive screws for iixedly associating the same to a suitable supporting means, but `of course any suitable securing means may be employed `for the holder.
It is thoughtfrom theforegoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes `in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.V
What I claim is: Y
l. A garment holder comprising a body having a recess arranged in the face thereof, brackets secured to the ends of the body and including forwardly directed horizontal arms having notches extending at an inclination from the top edges thereof and being directed toward the body,
a roller, trunnions extending from the ends of tlfe roller and eccentrically mounted with respect thereto, saidtrunnions being adapted to be received in any pair of companion notches for disposing the yroller in cooperation with the body to set up a clamping action and handles secured to the trunnions.
2. A garment holder comprising a body in the form of a rectangular block having a seam receiving recessin the Vface thereofang1e brackets having Vertical arms secured to the ends of the block and horizontal arms directed forwardly therefrom, a roller,V trunnions eccentroally mounted in the ends of the roller and received bythe horizontal arms to provide cam means cooperating With the body to setV up a clamping action, said roller being adjustable with respectVV to` the block and said horizontal arms provided with means to receive the trunnions to hold the roller in adjusted positions, and heads formed on the trunnions and having serrated peripheries to provide handles.
