UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
ALEXANDER MILNE AND ARMAND JOURDAIN, OF NEXVARK, NE JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN WATCH-CROWNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,732, dated January 29, 1878 application filed December 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALEXANDER MILNE and ARMAND J OURDAIN, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved lately Crown, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figures 1 and 2 represent vertical central sections of the outer and inner shells or sections of our improved watch-crown, and Fig. 3 is a side view of the finished crown.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention has reference to an improved watch-crown of solid and superior construction, made of solid gold without brass core, and with a steel socket for the key; and the invention consists of a watch-crown made of an inner shell or section of suitable thickness, to which a center steel socket is firmly attached, and of an outer covering shell or section.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the inner shell or section of our improved watchcrown, and B the outer section, which are both stamped up, in the customary manner of gold or other plate, of suitable thickness, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The inner shell A is made with a central opening, and secured to the grooved circumference of a steel sorewsocket, 0, either by riveting, burnishing, or otherwise. The outer shell is then driven over the inner shell, and the lower edge of both shells bend inwardly into rounded shape, and the crown then finished in the usual manner.
The key D is screwed into the center socket of the inner shell, and forms thus a strong and substantial crown for stem-winding and other watches, of superior construction, with a durable steel socket, and an exterior inclosingshell that covers entirely the inner shell and socket, so as to give a finished appearance to the crown without the use of a brass core, as heretofore.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A watch-crown made of. an inner shell, with central screwsocket, and of an exterior covering-shell, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
