Description

A. BRUBAKBR. Bag-Holders.
No 199,507. Patented Jan. 22,1878.
WIT s ATTORNEY N. PETERS, PHOTO-UTNOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D' O.
UNITED STATES PATENT: OFFICE.
ANDREW BRUBAKER, OF ASHLAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO L. JEFF SPRE NGLE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 199, 507, dated January 22, 1878; application filed To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW BRUBAKER, ofAshland, in the county of Ashland and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Sack-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation. of the same, reference being had to and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the sliding sections of the marginal hoop or spreader, adapted to be inserted within the mouth of the bag, and provided with spikes or points to engage the cloth of the bag, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letterA designates the mouth portion of a sack or bag. B represents the holder, oblong in form, and consisting of two sections, 0 and l), which meet along the parallel sides a of the holder. These sections are, respectively, provided with slideways b, which embrace the bars 0 of the other, and slide thereon along the parallel portions thereof when the holder is adjusted to larger or smaller compass. A
Externally the rounded end portions (1 of the sections are provided with outwardly-projecting spikes or prongs e, which are designed to pierce the cloth of the bag when the holder is adjusted in its mouth and spread by sliding the sections apart.
. One of the sections being providedwith a hook, f, whereby it may be attached to aringsocketor other bearing, by which it is held rigidly, and the other being unsupported except by the slides, the weight of the bag tends to cause a deflection in the middle, throwing up the slides, thereby causing the same to lock during the operation of filling the sack.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The detachable and adjustable bag-holder, consisting of the spreading sections 0 and D, each having parallel bars 0 attached to slideways 1;, embracing the bars 0 of the other, said bars reciprocating with the slideways, and provided with vertical hook f, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ANDREW BRUBAKER.
