DOORSTOP Filed D60. 29, 1933 ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 29, 1935 DooRsfroP David Traum, New York, N. Y. Application December 29, 1933, Serial No. 704,508
2 Claims.
This invention relates to door stops and has more particular reference to an improved form of door stop together with means for ornamenting the same.
The invention aims for one of its objects to provide a door stop shaped in such a manner that its center of gravity is so disposed with reference to the juncture of its bottom and rear faces as to effectively prevent overturning thereof.
The invention further resides inthe provision of a door stop of the indicated character in which a panel, separate from the body thereof, defines an inclined front face and is covered by an ornamental covering together with a common means for securing the panel to the body and the cover in place over the panel in order to conceal the securing means, and lends an attractive and finished appearance to the article.
The invention further embodies in a door stop of the character set forth, a hollow body having an open side for a panel serving as a closure for said open side with an ornamental covering for the panel, and which body is adapted to be filled with sand or an equivalent material to give to the article the required weight to perform its function.
'I'he invention also comprehends an ornamental door stop which includes a body and a removable panel which are sold to the purchaser, together 30 with a material which is adapted to be embroidered or otherwise ornamented and then assembled to produce the finished article.
More specifically, the invention comprehends a door stop having right angularly disposed bottom and rear faces and an inclined front face having an ornamental covering.
Other objects of the invention reside in the provision of a door stop which is comparatively simple in its construction, inexpensive to produce and which is so constructed that the same may be individually ornamented tosuit the taste of the individual by application of an ornamental covering thereto. Y,
With the above recited and other objects in view, reference is now made to the following specication and accompanying drawing in which there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, while the claims cover variations and modifications which fall within their scope.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a door stop constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the body with the panel removed.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view therethrough.
In the form of the invention illustrated, the body 5 is preferably of hollow construction and includes a bottom wall 6, a rear wall 7 and identical sides 8, the bottom wall having an inclined front edge 9 and the rear wall an inclined upper 5 edge 10 and the side walls 8 being'of triangular formation having a horizontal'lower edge 11, a vertical rear edge l2 and an inclined forward edge 13, which inclined edge 13 is disposed in the same plane and flush with the edges 9 and 10 of l0 the bottom and rear walls 6 and 7. While the bottom, rear and side walls may be assembled in any desired manner, the same are preferably connected as shown, by means of tongues 14 on the bottom and rear Walls which engage with 15 grooves 15 on the side walls. This construction provides a hollow body which is open at the front so as to receive sand or an equivalent material for giving the desired weight to the body. A separate panel 16 which serves as a closure for the open front ofthe body is employed and provides a front face for the structure.
The panel 16 is preferably covered with an ornamental cover 17 of needle point tapestry or embroidered material which is stretched thereover after the same is vworked with the desired design and the marginal edges 18 are turned inwardly to underlie the margin of the panel 16. It thus follows that when the panel 16 is applied to the body 5, the edges 18 ofthe covering material are disposed between the panel and the edges 9, 10 and 13 of the body structure. Preferably, nails or any other suitable fastening elements 19, driven through the panel 16, serve as a common means for securing the panel in place and holding the covering material in covering relation to the panel. The nails are preferably driven through thek panel prior to the application of the covering 1'7 so that they are concealed thereby, thus lending an attractive finished appearance to the article. Due to the triangular cross sectional shape of the door stop, it will be observed that its center of gravity is so disposed with reference to the juncture of the bottom and rear lfaces as to effectively prevent over-balancing and overturning thereof, while providing a decorative inclined face of relatively larger area.
In use, the rear wall 7 of the body flatly contacts with the door A while the bottom wall 6 flatly contacts with the oor to hold the door in opened position.
What is claimed is: Y
1. A door stop including a horizontal bottom wall section, an upstanding rear wall section, spaced triangular side Wall sections secured to the bottom and rear Wall sections and defining a hollow body having an opened inclined front through which a Weighting material is adapted to be introduced thereto, a front panel constituting a closure `for the open inclined front of said body, a fabric covering for said front panel, and a common means concealed by the covering for securing said covering in a position completely overlying the panel and for attaching said panel to and in a position closing the opened inclined front of the body. y
2. A door stop including a hollow body having a horizontal bottom Wall, a vertical rear wall and spaced side Walls defining a triangular shaped receptacle having an open inclined front adapted to contain a Weighting material which is introduced through the open front, a front panel constituting a closure for said receptacle, a fabric covering for said panel completely overlying the same and having its marginal edges directed in- Wardly, extending around the edges of the panel and disposed between the panel and the edges of the open front of the body, and a common means for securing said fabric covering in position over the panel and for securing said panel -to-the body, said meansextending throughthe panel and the inturned marginal edges of the covering and anchored in the edges of the front of the body.
