1,988,068- LADYS COMBINATTbN UNDERGARMENT I Mollie Beckerrfian', New Y6rk;*'N.{-Y. Application-February 26, 1934,seria1 No71a052 w Z-CIaims. (01. 2-211) The presentinvention relates to improve ments in garments and has' reference more particularly to a ladys combination undergar ment.
cludes a slip, underskirt or chemise having stepins detachably secured to the inside thereof;
, Astill further object isto provide 'a ladys un'-' 'derg'arment wherein"'elastic inserts are"as'so-' ciate'd with the side portions of the garment at" the waistline for the purpose: of :.:eliminati-ng the bulkiness" of thegarmerit' andaidi'ngaiii a more perfect fit of the garment on the "bodyof thewearer.
attachedmnd" removed from the garment for cleaning purposes, the step-ins being constructed in such a manner as to permit the same to be opened while attached to the inside of the garment, thus obviating the necessity of having to remove the entire step-ins, except when the same are to be laundered or changed.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent when taken in connection with the following description.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a slip having the step-ins attached to the inside thereof and showing the elastic inserts at the sides, the combination undergarment being illustrated on the body of the wearer;
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the same;
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of the step-ins forming a salient part of the present invention;
Figure 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the strips attached to the front and rear portions of the slip, underskirt or chemise on the inside thereof;
Figure 6 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view, more clearly illustrating the manner in which the step-ins are detachably secured to the inside of the slip;
Figure 7 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing the step-ins as associated with an underskirt; and
Figure 8 is a detail perspective view of a modification of the step-ins that includes reinforcements of rubberized silk to permit the step-ins to be used for sanitary purposes.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally a slip including an upper body portion 2 Oneof the principalobjectsnf the present;- invention is to" providea garment that" in-= Another important object of the invention is to-"provi'de a ladys combination undefgetrment wherein the step ins. can "bereadily and easily provided with shoulder straps 3 for supporting the "garmentfrom the shoulders of the wearer and the skir't'portion 4. Theupperbody portion -and skirt 2 portion are preferably" integrally connected.
For the pu'rpose or eliminatingbulkiness of 1 the :u'ndergarment' andto provide for a better; fit of the slip-"on thebody'of thewearer, there is'provided 'elastic'i nserts attheopposite sides of --the slip-at the waist portion thereof, as clearly illustrated in Figures 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The relastic inserts may'- be associated at the side portions of the slip-inaany desirable manner.- Detachably secured to the inside of the tslipi'l are thestep-ins denoted generally by the numeral-6 in Figure- 4. These step-ins include front andreai' body-portions 7 and-8, respectively, and-are permanently connected: together at; their low er ends, the body-portions; 7 and}; being further permanently connected together at one side while the opposite side portions are detachably connected together by the conventional snap fastening means indicated generally by the numeral 9 in Figure 4. The leg openings in the step-ins are denoted by the numeral 10. The side edges of the body portions above the side connections are free, the front and rear body portions tapering from adjacent the point of connection of the sides toward the upper ends thereof to provide relatively narrow terminals, as is clearly shown in Figures 3 and 8 of the drawings.
Short strips of material 11 matching the material from which the step-ins are constructedare attached to the outer faces of the terminals formed on the front and rear body portions '7 and 8 along the upper edges thereof by stitching or other suitable fastening means. Carried by the strips 11 and arranged at spaced intervals are the socket portions 12, forming the female portions of the snap fasteners constituting the preferred form of connecting means for detachably securing the step-ins to the inside of the slip.
Similar strips 13 are secured to the front and rear portions of the slip on the inside thereof and are preferably stitched to the skirt portion below the waistline of the slip. Carried by the strips 13 are the headed portions or male parts 14 of the snap fasteners and which headed portions coact with the respective socket portions 12 to detachably support the step-ins 6 from the waist portion on the inside of the slip.
While I have shown the step-ins as being detachably secured to the inside of the slip by snap fastener connections, I do not wish to limit myself to this particular way of securing the step-ins, as buttons and button-holes, hooks and eyes and other similar fastening means may be employed for this purpose.
By detachably securing the step-ins to the inside of the slip in the manner as shown and described, the same can be readily and easily attached and removed for laundering purposes. Furthermore, by constructing the step-ins, so that the same may be opened at one side, it is not necessary to remove the step-ins from the inside of the slip for certain purposes, it being only necessary to open the fasteningmeans 9.
In Figure 7 of the drawings, I have illustrated the detachable step-ins being secured to the inside of an undershirt 15. It is also to be understood that the detachable step-ins maybe equally as well associated with a chemise.
In Figure 8 of the drawings, I have illustrated a pair of step-ins 16 constructed for sanitary purposes, the same being substantially similar in design and manner of construction as the step-ins illustrated in Figure 4, but in addition, reinforced portions of rubberized silk denoted by the numeral 17 are stitched to the inner faces of the front and rear body portions of the step-ins at the crotch portion thereof.
The modified form of step-ins is otherwise constructed in the same manner as the step-ins shown in Figure 4 and are adapted to be detachably secured to the inside of a slip, underskirt' or chemise in a like manner.
It will thus be seen from the'foregoing description, that I have provided a ladys combination undergarment that is simple in construction, as well as inexpensive in its manufacture, and by reason of its simplicity, the step-ins can be readily and easily detached and connected to the undergarment, the step-ins in no way interfering with the full skirt effect of the slip or underskirt.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In a ladys undergarment, the combination of a slip, step-ins including front and rear body portions connected at their sides and lower ends, the side edges of said body portions above the aforesaid connections being free, the front and rear body portions tapering from adjacent the point of connection of the sides toward the upper ends thereof to provide relatively narrow terminals, and complementary fastening means secured to the narrow terminals and to the inside of the slip near the waistline thereof to detachably secure the step-ins to the inside of the slip.
2. In a ladys undergarment, the combination of a slip, step-ins including front and rear body portions, permanently connected at their lower ends and at one side, detachable fastening means connecting the front and rear body portions at the open side thereof, the side edges of the body portions above the aforesaid side connections being free, the front and rear body portions tapering from adjacent the point of connection of the sides toward theupper ends thereof to provide relatively narrow terminals, and complementary fastening means secured to the narrow terminals and to the inside of the slip near the waistline thereof to detachably secure the step-ins to the inside of the slip.
