This-invention relates to safety razors and to the blades to be used in such razors. My invention contemplates, among other things the pro vision of 'simpleand eflicient means for properly and accurately positioning a blade in the holder therefor, as when the holder is assembled ready for shaving, which means allows the easy removal of the blade from the holder, when desired. Referring now to Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, I have there shown a modified form of my improved razor wherein the blade may merely be laid on the guard member, the blade being automatically moved into shaving position by the clamping member on the operation. of the handle. In

Said portion 152 is inserted into a suitable recess 153 in the hollow handle 154 and is normally urged upwardly and out of the handle by means of the compression spring 155 inserted into the recess 153' and surrounding the extension 156 of theguard supporting member. It will be understood that while I have shown various specific embodiments of my invention, I do not desire to limit myself thereto but intend to claim my invention as broadly as may be permitted by the state of the prior art and the scope of the appended claims.

10. In a safety razor having a guard, a blade covering and clamping member pivotally mounted relatively to the guard, a pair of similar spaced arms extending laterally from an edge of said clamping member, cam means formed on each of said arms, a handle, a movable member within the handle, means for guiding said movable member for movement in a straight line path, means fixed relatively to the handle to engage the cam means on the movement of the movable member to swing the covering memberon its pivot to cover and uncover a blade, and a screw threaded finger piece in threaded engagement with the movable member to move said movable member on the rotation of the finger piece in one direction first to swing the clamping member toward blade-covering position, and then to exert clamping pressure on the blade and to progressively adjust the blade relatively to the guard.

A safety razor comprising a blade-positioning member for a slotted blade, a blade clamping element, an extension member depending from the positioning member, a hollow handle for the reception of the extension member, a pivot for the clamping element engaging one of said members and movable with said one member, threaded means carried by the extension member for sliding the extension within the handle, and means for swingingthe clamping element on its pivot on rotation of the threaded means comprising cam means on the clamping element and means fixed relatively to the handle for engaging and controlling the movement of the cam means, said controlling means being arranged adjacent the pivot of the clamping element.

In a safety razor, a hollow handle, a threaded member slidable in the handle, means for preventing relative rotation of the member and the handle, a finger-piece having a portion in threaded engagement with the threaded member, means for maintaining the finger-piece in position adjacent the end of the handle, blade-positioning means carried by the threaded member, a bladeclamping member, pivot means movable with the threaded member for pivotally connecting the blade-positioning means and the clamping member, and means for swinging the clamping member on its pivot on the rotation of the fingerpiece comprising cam means on said arms and means fixed relatively to the handle and arranged in closely spaced relation to the pivot means for engaging the cam means and controlling the movement thereof.
13. In a safety razor, the combination of a razor blade having cut-out portions at each end thereof, and a longitudinal slot therein, bladepositioning means adapted to enter the slot to initially position the blade, said blade-positioning means having an extension, a hollow handle adapted to slidably receive said extension, a blade-clamping and covering member pivotally mounted relative to the blade-positioning means and provided with arcuate cams, means for guiding said extension to move relatively to the handle in a straight line path, means fixed relatively to the handle for engaging the cams to swing the covering member on movement of the cams, a finger-piece rotatably mounted at the end of the handle, and threaded means carried by the finger-piece to move the cams longitudinally of the handle and to swing the clamping member on the rotation of the finger-piece and thereby to produce combined oscillatory and reciprocatory movement of said blade covering membercrelatively to the handle to clamp and gradually ad-, just the blade in the razor.
