ADVERTIS ING FRAME FOR A LIQUID POURER Filed Oct. 12, 1935 INVENTORS dOHN d. DALY BEATRIcE ALBERDI ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 21,1934
snvsa'rrsmc FRAME son A Room POURER John J. Daly and Beatrice Alberdi, New York,
Y.; said Alberdi assignor to Dalynip Pour-er gol'rlkh, New York, N. Y., a corporation of New Application October 12, 1933, Serial No. 693,234
8 Claims. (01. 215-79) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a liquid pourer.
The invention has for an object the construction of an article as mentioned which is characterized by a bottle stopper provided with a pouring spout, and advertising buttons mounted upon the pouring spout in a novel fashion.
Still further the invention contemplates the arrangement of a frame mounted upon the side 1 of the spout and a member supported on said frame for supporting said buttons.
Still further this invention contemplates the provision of a plate to comprise said member, said plate to be equipped with an opening through which said advertising buttons may besupported.
Furthermore as another object of this invention it is proposed to provide an air tube in conjunction with the pouring spout and to arrange the tube as to" constitute the frame for supporting the support plate which in turn supports the advertising buttons.
As another object of this invention it is also proposed to provide an arrangement whereby the support plate may be removably held in position when the advertising buttons are engaged there- Still further the invention proposes the construction of an article as mentioned which is sim-@ ple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novelfeatures of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part or this disclosure:-

w of another type taken on the line The liquid pourer according to this invention 76 comprises a bottle stopper 10 adapted to be engaged in the neck of a bottle. A pouring spout 11 extends through the stopper 10 from the bottom edge thereof and projects materially above the top. This spout 11 is slightly bent laterally 80 so as to aid in its pouring ability. A frame 12 (or tube as hereinafter explained) is mounted upon the side of the spout 11 and is adapted. to
hold a support plate 13 in turn adapted to hold advertising buttons 14. The frame 12 in addition to merely being a frame constitutes a tube which also extends through the stopper 10 and terminates at the end 15 materially below the bottom of the stopper. The purpose of this tube is to provide for the passage of air from the atmosphere into the bottom. The exceptional length of this air tune is for the purpose to extend above the liquid through the spout 11.
A collar 16 is mounted upon the upper end of 96 the air pipe 12 and hingedly supports a cover 17 for the spout 11. This cover is so arranged that normally it closes the end of the spout, but when the bottle is inclined during the pouring of the liquid due to gravity this cover swings to an open 100 position to allow the passage of the liquid through the spout 11 from the bottle, and airthrough the tube or into the bottle. The support plate 13 comprises merely a plate which is placed between the air tube 12 (or frame) and one side of the spout 11. This plate may be held in place by solder, brazing or other similar arrangements.
The plate 13 is provided with a central opening 18 and the advertising buttons 14 are adapted to be secured upon the plate by reason of this '2 opening. In Fig. 15-a detail is shown of themanner in which the advertising buttons are enthe collar 16. The cover gaged upon the plate. It should be noticed that a pair of these buttons are used, on opposite sides of the plate, one of these buttons being provided with a small projection through the opening engaging the other button. The construction is of the snap type so that the buttons may be snapped in place and removed. similarly from place. A cotter pin 19 is shown engaged upon the free end of the air tube 12 clamped. upon the collar 16 and constitutes a hinge for the cover 17.
In Fig. 5 another embodiment of the liquid pourer has been disclosed which is very similar to the preferred form and corresponding parts may be recognized by the identical reference numerals. This type of pourer distinguishes in the provision of a frame 12'. .It is merely of.
a different shape than the frame so as to be adapted to accommodate the buttons 14. distinguishing from the buttons 14 also in shape.
More particularly the buttons 14 are of elliptical shape and the frame 12"correspondingly shaped. A further distinction comprises the arrangement of thecover 17, which is equipped with soft material 20 or other similar packing material adapted to engage against the upper end of the spout 11 so as to tightly hold the spout closed under the pressure of a spring 21 coaxially arranged upon the pivot 22 holding'the cover 17 pivotally. v
More particularly the pivot 22 works between a pair of lugs 23 projecting from the sides of 1'7 is provided with a rear projection 24 by which it may be manually tilted to force it into the open position. This particular type of cover is adapted for bottles containing liquid with gases to prevent the free escape of such gases.
In Figs.'6-9 inclusive, another modification of the invention has been disclosed in which the liquid pourer comprises a large tube 25 extending through the bottle stopper 26. A partition 27 extends completely through the large tube 25 dividing it into two longitudinal passages, The side of the tube 25 is formed with several apertures 28 for the passage of the liquid into one of said passages. This tube 25 extends materially below the bottom of the stopper 26 so as to extend above the liquid level in a bottle. Thus the air may pass inwards from the atmosphere through one passage while the liquid may enter the openings 28 and pass outwards through the other passage. A pin 29 projects from one side of the upper end of the tube 25 and constitutes a rest whereby the liquid pourer may be rested against the edge of a glass or other receptacle for the purposeof steadying the pourer during the pouring operation.
Still further the liquid pourer is provided with a frame 30 attached upon one side of the top portion of the tube 25. This frame is provided with an internal peripheral groove 31. A support plate 32 is arranged within this groove. This support plate comprises a pair of sections in edge alignment with each other and hingedly connected by pins 33 at the contacting edges. The sections comprising the support plate 32 are in the same plane, this corresponding with the extended position of the plate, and the plate is then main tained within the groove. The mounting of buttons 14 upon the sides of the support plate 32 hold the support plate 32 in the latter mentioned condition, (the extended position). The support plate is provided with a central opening 18 for the coacting elements of the buttons to pass. A feature of this arrangement lies in the fact that upon removal of the buttons 14, the support plate 32 may be bent and removed and then the frame 30 may be used as a ring or handle through which the finger may be engaged for supporting the device or for other purposes.
In Figs. 10 and 12 inclusive another modified form of the invention has been disclosed which is substantially identical to the form shown in' Figs. 6-9 inclusive except for the provision of the frame which supports the advertising buttons. The corresponding parts may be recognized by the same reference numerals. Attention is called to the fact that a headed element 29' isprovided as constituting the stop for resting the stopper upon the edge of a glass or other element.
In Figs. 13-15 inclusive another arrangement of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the form illustrated in Figs. 1-4 inclusive except for the construction of the frame which holds the advertising buttons. More particularly a tube 12' extends through the stopper 10 and runs along the side of the spout 11 the entire distance. A branch tube 12 is arranged upon the side of the tube 12' and constitutes the frame for supporting the plate 13 which in turn supports the buttons 14. The feature of this arrangement lies in the fact that the air has a double passage a part of the way from the atmosphere into the bottle. That is, it may pass eitherv completely along the entire length of the tube 12' or may shunt a portion of the tube 12 by passing through the tube 12 instead.
While we have shown and described the preferred embodiment of our understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
