ALBERT ABBArIooHIo, or LATROBE, PENNSYLVANIA.
f SIN LE- AT H nrsrnnsnn.
' Application filed June 17, 1922. n Serial No. 568,982..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT Annarroomo, a citizen of the United States, IBSldlng at Latrobe, in the county ofWestmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Single-Match Dispensers, of which the followmg 1s a specification. The invention relatesto a single match dispenser,
The object of the present invention 1s to improve the construction of match dispensers and to provide a 'simple,fpract1cal and'efiicient match dispenser of strong, durable construction equipped with means for positively delivering matches','one at a time, from a receptacle, and capable alsoof being advantageously employed as an advertising novelty. I v
A. further object of this invention is to provide a single delivery'match dispenser of this character adapted to be arranged 1n .a can body with its operating mechanism disposed exteriorly thereof so. thatan operating handle or crank may be located adjacent a figure of a label applied to the exterior of the can so that-such a. figure may present. the appearance of operating the match dispensing device. a With these and otherobjects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood thatrvarious changes in the form, proportionand minute details of construction,
withinthe scope of'the appended claims,
may be resorted to .without departing from thespirit or sacrificing any of the advan ta es of the invention. s
n the drawings in whichlikecharacters of reference designate corresponding parts in the several views, I
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view' of a single match dispenser constructed in accordance with this invention, the match deliver slide being in lowered position for filling. I
Figure 2 is a similar viewshowing the match dispensing slide elevated. I

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken at right angles'to Fig. 2.
Figure 4: is a the match dispenser applied to a caribody.
and inwardly fromthe side walls ofthe cas;
'ing to form an upper match compartment "perspective view. showing I s In the accompanying drawing, in which 3 'is illustrated the preferred embodiment/pf the invention, the single match dispenser comprises in its construction avertical casl, ing 1, preferably oblong, in section; as shown, and comprisingvertical parallel-side provided midwayhe v Y bottom with I inclined 3 and terminating shortofeachothen to 5 form a central opening and having depend ing vertically disposed lips or' flanges- 4 thereat. match receiving recess for enabling The lips or *flanges 4 provide-5a: a match 5 to drop'into a channel'or groove'6 of a vertically movable match delivery' slide 7 which is. adapted to be raised' and lowered I opening or space between the through the inclined plates 2, which form thebottom-of the match receptacle 3. The slide '7', which is approximately inverted Ueshaped, is con'-. i
structed of sheet metal or-other suitable ma-- 5 terial and is composed of. spaced sides and a connecting top portion in which is formed the groove '6.
The oppositely 'inclinedli' plates form a hopper bottom for the match 7 is provided at the side tally projecting lugs 8 edges with horizonof the casing 1.
10. and a top or cover 11, which are preferably in the, form of caps h'avingflanges 12 and-13 to fit. over and embrace the side and which operat'efin ver--' tical guide slots '9, formed in the end walls It receptacle 3 and the vertically movable-slide end. walls of the casing 1. The cover 11 is I provided with "a central longitudinal slot 14: to which the match is carried by the slide and in order to facilitate the removal of the match from the they match to with an approximately,
holder or carrier, the slide iseutv away at one of its upper corners to H form a recess 15Qfor enabling the end of be carried into; engagement L-shaped tilting arm 16 arranged in thepath oftheadjacent I of the drawing. This will enable the match to be readily removed and the match is caused to project without necessitating the movement of the match holding means through the slot 14.
The match delivery slide is raised and lowered by means of a lazy tong frame 17 composed of crossedpivotally connected levei's or members 18 and upper and lower links or members 19 and 20, the upper links being pivoted to the slide near the top there of and the lower links being mounted on a fixed pivot 21. The sides of the slide are provided with slots or openings 22 to permit the slide to pass the pivot and also to enable operating means to be attached to the lazy tong frame and to be arranged at either side of the slide. The operating means comprises a shaft 23 j ournaled i suit able bearings of a horizontal supporti bar or member 24 in one of the sides of the casing and provided wtih an enteriorly arranged operating crank handle 25 or other suitable operating member, and having an interiorly arranged horizontal arm 26 which is connected by link 2? with one of the vertically movablepivots 28 of the lazy tong frame. The operating mechanism may be arranged at either side of the casing and whentlie operating mechanism is cha iged from one side to the other a corresponding change will be made in the position of the horizontal supporting bar or member :24. '7 As illustrated in Fig. at of the drawing, the match dispensing device may be arranged within a can body 30, provided at the lower portion with a slot 31 to enable it to be readily placed over the operating device and in practice the exteriorly arranged handle or arm will be located adjacent a figure applied to the can by means of a label so that the figure will present the appearance of operating the match dispensing device. '1 he can body is provided with a flanged bottom 32 and is designed to have a slotted top or cover for enabling the matches to be delivered through the same in the manner here tofore described. This arrangement of the device within a can body will enable the device to be used as an advertising novelty for advertising various kinds of goods sold in cans, as persons using the match dispensing device will necessarily read the adver tisement on the can.
Also thearrangement of the operating means of the match dispensing mechanism with relation to a figure or figures illustrated on a label, will render the device particularly effective as an advertising medium.
