I This invention relates to improvements in mountstor displaying samples of liquid, especially lubricating oil, and suited to be ut lized in conjunction with an ordinary lubricating oil dispensing pump. 'ihe object of the improvement isto provide a holder for bottles containing samples of lubricating oil that is dispensed by the pump upon which the holder is mounted, and so constructed that the lower portions of the bottles will be exposed to view and their necks sheltered, and so that either of the bottles may be readily removed from r the holder and replaced without disconnecting any portion of the holder.

T objects are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. l is a side elevation ot a holder embodying the invention, one of the sample bottles being omitted;

Fig. 2 is a front elevation projected from Fig. 1, parts being in section; and

Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the shelter, the supporting post being in section.

The invention comprises a base 1 having an upwardly extending post 2 rigidly secured thereto and having in connection with its underside a clip 3 by means of which the base is fixed upon the discharge pipe of a dispensing pump (not shown). Upon the top of the post is rigidly mounted a shelter 5 that is open at the bottom and at each end, which ends are provided respectively with a corresponding hinged lid 6. Each lid is arcl ed out vardly and provided with a finger piece 7 by which the lid is manipulated.

Vfit the shelter are secured a pair of spring members 8 d sposed in relative opposite positions, there being a screw 9 by means of which each spring is rigidly he d in place within the shelter. The screw for each spring is located in the housing and engages the spring at a point spaced nearer one end of the spring, and the shortest end 10 of the spring extends into the arched lid that is hinged on the corresponding end of the housing and bears beneath the top of the lid when the latter is closed and tends to hold the lid in closed position, and when the lid is opened the end 10 of the spring bears against the inner face of the lid and tends to hold the lid in open position. The opposite or longest end 11 he springs 8, there being a collar 15 on est 2 In utilizing the invention the holder is mounted upon a suitable support by means of the clip and is held in an upright position. 'lhe bottles are filled with samples of oil being dispensed and are positioned upon the base and held thereon by the springs. The bottles may be removed for handling and examination by swinging the lids upwardly and withdrawing the bottles from beneath their springs, and are replaced by first inserting the tops of the bottles beneath the ends 11 of the springs and con'ipressing upwardly against the tension of the springs and then inserting the bottoms of the bottles in the top of the base which is slightly hollowed for their reception.

A placard consisting of a plate 16 is secured in an upright position in connection with the housing upon which may be displayed the brand of oil being dispensed or other advertiseinent.

1. In a mounttorbottled samples of liquid, a base; an upright post fixed in the base; a housing fixed on the top of the post and spaced from said base, said housing being open at the bottom and both ends; an arched lid hinged in connection with each end of the housing for closing the corresponding end th re-e1"- and being open at its lower end} and a pair of springs secured within the up per part of said housing, one end of each spring having engaging relation with one of said lids whereby said lid is held selectively open or closed position, and the opposite end of said spring being sprung downwardly and extending into the other of said lids and adapted for holding a bottle in mounted position upon said base.
