Claims. (Cl. 72-7) l The present invention relatesto tombs andthe 510 vault in horizontal position above the tomb when the cover is raised to open position.

A further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a tomb of this nature which is simple in its construction, inex- Y- pensive to construct, easy to manipulate, thoroughly efcient and reliable in use and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and numerous other objects in E0 view as will appear as the description proceeds,

the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of .a tomb embodying the features of my invention.

Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section vtherethrough showing the cover or protector in raised position.

Figure 3 is a vertical transverse section therethrough taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Figure 4.

Figure 4 is a sectional View similar to that shown in Figure 2 but showing the cover in lowered position, and

Figure 5 is a sectional elevation of the vault raising means.

Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the tomb comprises a coping constructed of concrete or other suitable material so as to provide a bottom 5, a front wall 6, a rear wall 7, and side walls 8. A partition 9 rises from the bottom 5 equidistant from the side walls 8 in parallelism thereto and divides the tomb into two compartments. Across each compartment there is a pair of bars 10 on which a vault 11 may rest. The vault 11 is preferably constructed of metal and the front end thereof has a removable closure 12.

For each compartment there is a hinged cover or protector 14 which may be locked in closed position. There are two cradle structures A and B suspended from each cover 14. The innermost or rear cradle structure B comprises a pair of hangers or arms 15 pivotally `engaged as. at 16 in the cover 14 and having a bar 17 across the lower ends thereof. The front cradle structure A comprises alpair ofarms .18 pivotally mounted in the cover as at '19 andfbeing hollow to :telescopically receive slottedarms 20. Stop pins 21 extend across the lower ends `of `the 4arms 18 to limit the movement of the telescopic action of the arm into the arms 18. A bar 22 is mounted across the lower end of the arms 20. i

In use and operation, the section to be used is opened by raising the cover 14 of the desired compartment. Any suitable mechanism such as lifting devices used in cemeteries may be utilized for swinging the cover and holding it in raised position. As the cover swings from the closed position shown in Figure 4 to the open position shown in Figure 2 it will be seen that the rear cradle B engages the vault 11 and lifts the rear end thereof rst while as the cover is further swung to open position the cradle structure A will come into action and thus the vault 11 may be presented above the tube in a horizontal position so that the remains in the casket or the like may be easily slid into the end of the vault. The closing operation, of course, is just reversed.

It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.

The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplication since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.

It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combinationand arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. A burial tomb of the class described cornprising a coping including a compartment with bars thereacross, a cover hingedly mounted at one end on the coping, a cradle swingably mounted in the cover adjacent the end thereof to depend downwardly therefrom, a second cradle swingably mounted in the other end of the cover including a pair of pivoted arms in which are telescopically engaged a second pair of arms across the lo-wer ends of which is a bar.

2. A burial tomb of the class described comprising, in combination, a coping formed with a bottom, side walls rising therefrom, front and rear walls rising therefrom, a longitudinal centrally located partition rising from the bottom to provide two compartments, a pair of co-vers hingedly mounted at their ends to the rear walls of the compartment, a cradle swingably mounted in the hinged end of each cover, a second cradle being swingably mounted in the other end of the cover.

3. A burial tomb of the class described cornprising, in combination, a coping formed with a bottom, side walls rising therefrom, front and rear walls rising therefrom, a longitudinal centrally located partition rising from the bottom to provide two compartments, a pair of covers hingedly mounted at their ends to the rear walls of the compartment, a cradle swingably mounted in the hinged end of each cover, a second cradle being swingably mounted in the other end of the cover, and comprising a pair of pivotally mounted hollow arms, arms slidable in the hollow arms, means limiting the movement of the second arms with respect to the rst arms, and a bar across the lower end of the second arms.

4. A burial tomb of the class described lcom-V prising, in combination, a coping formed with a bottom, side walls rising therefrom, front and rear Walls rising therefrom, a longitudinal centrally located partition rising from the bottom to provide two compartments, a pair of covers hingedly mounted at their ends to the rear walls of the compartment, a cradle swingably mounted in the hinged end of each cover, a second cradle being swingably mounted in the other end of the cover, and comprising a pair of pivotally mounted hollow arms, arms slidable in the hollow arms, means limiting the movement of the second arms with respect to the first arms, and a bar across the lower end of the second arms, a pair of bars in each compartment extending thereacross.

5. A burial tomb of the class described comprising a coping including a compartment with bars thereacross, a cover swingably connected with the coping, a cradle swingably mounted in the cover to depend downwardly therefrom, a second cradle swingably mounted in the cover in spaced relation to the first mentioned cradle, said second cradle including a pair of pivoted arms and a pair of arms slidably connected therewith, and a bar across the lower portions of said second pair of arms.
