GRAVE COVER AND CASKET OR VAULT DECORATION Filed July 9. 1928 a Z v Inventor 21: Wifim /acl v 812mm Attorney Pa tent ed Nov. 11, 1930 UNITEDISTATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN w. BLAoKLocK, or" BROOKEIELD, MISSOURI GRAVVECOVER AND CASKET.ORVAULTDECORATiQN Application filed iul e, 192s; Serial No. 291,291,
In the drawing wherein like reference; parts characters indicate corresponding 15 throughout the several views: 7
Figure 1 is an end elevation of a vault or casket arranged above-the grave before-its being lowered therein and upon which is arranged the present device, iand v Figure 2 is'a bottom plan view of the device. x p I Now having particular reference to the drawing, my novel invention consists of a steel wire frame preferably consisting of three sectionseach being designated by the reference character 5 These frames consist of spaced lengths of wire, preferably if with the casket or vault A. Arranged upon the convex side of the frame comprising said sections andsecured thereto if desired is a wire or canvas matting 9 adapted to have arranged thereon artificial grass, moss or 15 flowers or the like B. The width of the de- Vice is greater than that of the cofiin or vault A-s'o as to completely cover the top thereof and to cause the engagement of the opposite longitudinal edges of the device as well as the end edges thereof with the edges of the grave when the vault or casket is lowered for closing the upper end of the grave, and to give the same a beautifying appearance until the attendants at the funeral have departed after which the device can beremoved and the grave filled in.
- It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple, and extremely useful ,device that is well adapted for all of the purposesheretofore designated.
Even though I have herein shown and described the'invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes maybe made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: l
1. A flower holder and grave cover of the character described comprising a plurality of longitudinally curvedrectangular sections, each section including spaced parallel longitudinalbars andtransverse end bars connecting the opposite ends of the longitudinal bars, said longitudinal bars being provided, at points spaced inwardly from their opposite ends, with downturned substantially U-shaped portions constituting legs for supporting the sections in vertical spaced relation on a coflin lid and flexible elements for connecting the sections together.
2. A flower holder and grave cover of the character described comprising longitudinally curved sections and supporting legs extending downwardly from said sections at points spaced inwardly from the opposite ends thereof for engagement on the lid of a coflin or vault for supporting the sections in vertically spaced relation thereon.
3. A flower holder and grave cover of the character described comprising a plurality of longitudinally curved sections, supporting legs extending downwardly from said sections at points spaced inwardly from the opposite ends thereof for engagement on the lid of a coflin or vault for supporting said sections in vertically spaced relation thereon, and flexible coupling elements for connectin the sections together.
ntestimony whereof I afi'ix my signature.
JOHN W. BLACKLOCK.
