:FETERS, PNOTO-LlTl-IOGRAPMER WASHINGTON, 0 C4 PATENT OEEIo DANIEL F. KEEFFE, OF GLEN S FALLS, NEW YORK.
-IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,153, dated October 16, 1877 application filed September 14, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL F. KEEFEE, of Glens Falls, in the county of lVarren and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Window-Sash Holder, of which the following is a specification:
substantially as will be hereinafter more fullydescribed and claimed.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 is a vertical section through parts of a window-sash and its frame, showing the improved holder fitted into the latter. Fig. 2 is an end view of the holder. fig; 3 is a section taken through the holder in the plane indicated, by dotted line as w on Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates part of a window; frame, and B part of t a window-sash. 0 represents a plug or case, which is screw-threaded part of its length, and constructed with a large slot or opening through it diametrically, and
also with aslot, a, through one end, which is rectangular in form. The plug 0 is slightly tapering, and its entering end is threadless. D designates a flanged bearing-frame, which receives the pintle of a roller, E, and which is constructed with a stud, e, 011 its elliptical bottom. The stud 0 receives the end of a spring, S, which is compressed between the said frame D and the bottom of the plug.
The plug, with its pressure-roller, acted on by a spring, is screwed into' the frame A or sash B, so as to act by the pressure of spring S on the vertical surface of either one or the other, and by friction to hold the sash safely at any desired height.
It is obvious that the pressure can be increased or diminished, according to the weight 'of the sash, by adjusting the plug 0.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The screw-threaded and slotted plug or case 0, bar ing combined with it the bearing-frame D, in combination with the-stud e and helical spring S, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
