SASH-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 13, 1919.
Application filed August 25, 1916. Serial No. 1,16,890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, JOHN A. Jones, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to window sash locks and the nature and objects thereof will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which it appertains in the light of the following explanation, of the accompanying drawings, illustrating what I now believe to be the preferred embodiment or mechanical expression, of my invention from among other forms and arrangements, within the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claim.
However, an object of the invention is to provide a sash lock including correlated members adapted to be secured to each sash for cooperation to lock the sashes against relative movement. 1- 7 Another object of the invention is to provide a sash lock of the character described adapted to lock the sashes against relative movement subsequent to adjustment in any position relative to each other or to the window frame, and to bind the sashes against the window frame to prevent rattling of the sashes in any adjusted position.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a sash lock of the character set forth, adaptedto be disposed adjacent the sides of the sashes, and embodying means for locking the sashes against relative movement, and resiliently compensating for differences in width of sashes and other details of construction, thereby enabling the device to be used on windows of various types. m
A still further object of the invention is to provide a sash lock of the character set which is adapted to lock the sashes against movement relative to each other in anyrelatively adjusted position thereof, and to further lock the sashes simultaneously against movement relative to the window casing, in any relative adjusted position of said sashes relative to said window frame.
In addition to the foregoing my invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly set forth in the appended clalm.

In the accompanying drawings, 10 and 11 indicate respectively the lower and upper sashes of a window guided in outer and inner guiding strips 12 and 13 respectively and separated by means of parting strip 14.
The upper sash 11 is provided upon the inner face of one of the vertical side members with a vertically extending rack bar 15, having apertured terminals 16 through which suitable threaded fastenings 17 pass to secure said rack bar to the sash.

The locking member of my sash lock, is mounted upon the upper edge of the lower sash and comprises a casing 18 flanked at either side by apertured ears 19 through .which suitable threaded fastenings 20 pass to secure the casing to the sash. The casing is substantially semi-circular with the diametrical portion facing the outside of the Window. The casing 18 is provided substantially centrally in its top platewith an opening 21. A locking plate 22 is superposed above and exteriorly of the casing and comprises a discous member having an eccentrieally disposed square opening 23 through which the squared shank 24: of a bolt passes, the said bolt having a hemispherical head 25. Thus it will be seen that the sashes may be held or locked together in any position relative to each other, and within limits of the .Thus, a double locking of the sashes is provided, namely,
relative to each other, and relative to the window frame. Owing to this arrangement, the upper sash for instance, may be lowered, and locked to the lower sash, both sashes being simultaneously engaged against the window frame. An
opening at the upper portion of the window is thus provided. In a similar manner the lower sash may be moved upward, locked to the upper sash, and both sashes engaged against the frame. On the other hand, the sashes may be moved toward each other so .as to provide an opening at the top and bottom of the window and locked to each other engaged against the frame.
lVhile I. have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I nevertheless realize that in practice various alterations thereover may be made, and I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction, or otherwise altering the arrangement of correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
