Description

May 29, 1934. T. R. ROBERTS 1,960,511
QUICK RELEASE HANGER FOR TOOLS, ETC
Filed Nov. 17. 1932 INVENTOR.
WV MW ATTORNEYS Patented May 29, 1934 UNITED STATES PATET FFICE 1 Claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a snap hook attachment which may be readily applied to any one of a large variety of articles and by means of which the article may be readily attached to and detached from a suitable hanger.
The device is especially useful for facilitating the handling of pruning implements or other implements or equipment needed by persons who have to climb about in the performance of their work, the construction being such that the implement or article may be readily snapped upon and detached from a hanger without the need of reverse manipulation of the spring tongue of the snap hook.
The accompanying drawing illustrates my invention:
Fig. l is a side elevation practically full size of one form of my invention applied to the handle of a pruning saw;
Fig. 2 is a plan of the structure shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a similar View of a modified form;- and Fig. 4 is a plan of the structure shown in Fig. 3.
In the drawing 10 indicates the main hook body of a well known form of snap hook provided with the spring tongue 11 and with an integral eye 12 the cross bar of which, in this embodiment, is pivoted in the pocket 13 of anchor plate 14, which is adapted to be attached, by suitable screws 15 to the desired implement or article A.
Plate 14 is perforated at 16 and projected through this perforation is a finger 17 the inner end of which lies beneath and is retained by plate 14 and the outer end of which overlies the spring tongue 11 in such position as to normally hold the main body 10 of the snap hook at one extreme of its possible movement.
In this construction the hook may be attached to a suitable hanger, say a ring 20 carried by a waist belt 21, indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, by forcing the spring tongue laterally against the ring, or the ring against the spring tongue, in a well known manner.
In order to detach the snap hook from the ring 00 it is merely necessary to set the ring in the hook beyond the end of the spring tongue and then swing the main body of the hook outwardly until the point of the hook is displaced laterally from the free end of the tongue sufiioiently to permit withdrawal of the ring.
This operation can be performed by a single hand of the user without finger engagement with the spring tongue.
In the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4 anchor plate 30 is provided with medial side ears 31 between which the root of the hook 32 is pivoted,
a spring 33' serving to normally hold the hook at one end of its travel against the plate 30. The spring tongue 34 overlies the root of hook 32, the inner end being projected through and beneath plate 30 and the outer end underlying and coacting with the hook tip 32 of hook 32.
Manipulation of the device shown in Figs. 3 and 4 is the same as already described.
It will be readily understood that many modifications of the device may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and that the device is readily useful and applicable to many different articles.
I claim as my invention:
A snap hook hanger comprising an anchor plate, a hook body pivotally supported by said anchor plate, a spring tongue anchored on the hook body and underlying the tip of the hook, 90 and a finger carried by the anchor plate and overlying the spring tongue.
TOM R. ROBERTS.
