Description

Jan. 8 1924.
A. H. GOSHIA SGISSORS Filed March 20, 1923 Patented Jan. 8, 1924:.v
PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT H. GOSHIA, OF SHERWOOD, OHIO.
SCISSORS.
Application filed March 20, 1923.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT H. GOsHIA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherwood. in the county of Defiance and 5 State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scissors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in scissors and shears and has for its object to provide a cutter of this nature with a movable finger or hand hold.
Another object of the invention is to provide in a shears, means whereby the hand hold is automatically adjustable to the hand of the user.
A still further object of the invention is to provide in a pair of shears, a blade having an operating shank and a movable finger or hand hold thereon automatically operable with the movement of the hand of the operator.
With the above and such objects in view as may hereinafter more fully appear, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1, is an elevational view of a pair of scissors made according to my invention;
Figure 2, is a section on line 22 there ofand a Figure 3,. is an elevational view of a modified form of the invention.
Like reference characters indicate I like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings 1n which 1 indicates apair of scissors having a shank 2, with a finger hold 3 and a shank 4 having its terminal 5 bent inwardly to abut the ring 6 of the member 3 when in closed position whereby the movementof the shank 4 is limited in one direction. Mounted upon the main body portion 7 of the shank 4 is a movable thumb ring 8 having depending spaced apart ears 9 and 10 which straddle the shank member 7 and depend, as at 9 and 10 below said shank portion to receive the rivet pin12 whereby the rim is held connected to 'the shank 4. A friction roller 13, is mounted on the rivet pin 12. Because of the arcuate cross sectional contacting surface 14 of the ring 8 and the similar formation of the upper surface 15 of the member 7, there is, comparatively speaking, little or no frictional engagement be- Serial No. 626,324.
just itself upon the shank portion 7 to the size of the hand of the party using the same and the ring will also have a slidablemovement on the shank with the. opening and closing of the scissors, thus relieving the hand of the operator from strain either through its position in holding the scissors or its position in manipulating the same. Thus, scissors made according to my invention may-be constantly used with a great deal less strain and with considerable more comfort and freedom of the movement of the hand. This scissors is especially adapted for seamstresses and others who constantly use scissors and is also especially adapted for surgeons scissors or shears whereby a more perfect control of the scissors may behad..
In Figure 4 a slight-modification of the invention is shown in which the shears 16, is provided with an undershank 17 similar in construction to the shank 4 of the device of Figure 1, and is provided with a hand hold loop 18, slidably mounted on said shank 7 which operates in identically the same manner as does the ring 8 of Figure 1.
If desired, the member 12 may be a set screw whereby the ears 10, may be clamped upon the bar 17 in order that the member 18 may be fixedly secured to any position on said wall. I
Having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is lfIn a scissors an adjustable hand hold, in the form of a slidable loop, mounted on one end of a shank of said scissors, said shank having a turned-in, portion for limitingthe movement of the scissors, said 100 having spaced apart ears straddling sai shank. j,
2.. In a scissors an adjustable ,liand hold, in the form of a slidable loop, mounted on one end of a shank of said scissors, said shank having a turned-in portion for limiting the movement of the scissors, said loos having spaced apart ears straddling sai shank, a rivet connecting said ,ears inwardly of said shank. v
3. In a scissors an adjustable hand hold,
' in the form of a slidable loop, mounted on one end of a shank of said scissors, said shank having aturned-in portion for limitranged to slide with the movement of the ing the movement of the scissors, said loop hand of the operator. having spaced apart ears straddling said In testimony whereof I affix my signature shank, a rivet connecting said ears inwardly in the presence of two Witnesses.
