ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. NICHOLS, OF EVANS MILLS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOILET-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,034, dated October 9,1877; application tiled August 25, 1877.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. NICHOLS, of Evans Mills, in the county of Jefferson and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Toilet-Cases, and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of front view of my improved toilet-case. Figs. 3 and 4 are vertical cross-sections of the same, and Figs. 2 and 5 are details.
This invention has relation to improvements y in toiletcases 5 and the nature of the invention consists in a wash-stand combining the features of a toilet-table, bath, and water-closet, constructed and arranged substantially as hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates the body of my improved toilet-oase, having upon its upper side a hand-basin, B, closed byf-the usual plug a, and let into the top in the -usual manner.; a mirror, C, supported bythe uprights b, and iianking said mirror at each side one or more drawers, y, for holding combs, brushes, and other toilet articles. Behind the mirror, and between the uprights b, is a water-tank, l), having an inclined front wall, corresponding to the inclination of said mirror, and provided with a faucet, b', extending under it to the front, over the basin aforesaid. The tank is thus entirely concealed from view. Water is introduced into it by removing its lid o. Below the lid, at each end of the case, are drawers d, for containing towels, Sponges, and the like. The water from the basin is discharged into a pail arranged inside of the case below the educt of the same, to which access is had through a door, e. At 011e end of the case is a hinged door, Gr, which allows access to a bath-tub, H, resting upon the iioor. This tub is of the usual construction, and of sufficient length to bathe in conveniently. It may be readily drawn out through the door aforesaid, and extends from end to end of the case. At that end of the case where the narrow end of the tub is, but in rear thereof, is a door, J, which gives access to a commode, K, that rests upon the oor, and is provided with casters, the bottom of the case A being cut away to admit the commode and allow it to be rolled in or out upon the floor of the apartment.
This commode is composed of a preferably rectangular box, L, having a hinged lid with the usual orifice, and of a vessel, M, of the usual material or materials, having at its upper edge bails yn,\by means of which it may be conveniently handled. This vessel is provided at its upper edge with an enlargement, o, forming, with the body thereof, a seat-shoulder, p, for a lid, O, of any suitable materials. This lid has a handle, o', and is provided with a rubber packing, q, upon its perimeter, that prevents the escape of gas from the said vessel when the lid is inserted in the seat p.
I have thus devised a toilet-case containing all the essential appliances and conveniences of a Washstand, toilet-table, bath, and commode.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described toilet-case, having the water-tank D, concealed by the mirror O, and provided with the faucet b', the basin B, the door c, allowing access to the slop-pail, in its front, the end doors (ir J, the bath/tub H, and commode K, concealed from view inside ofthe case, and the latter provided with casters and resting upon the iioor of the room, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereimto subscribed my name in the presencel of two witnesses.
WILLIAM ARCHER NICHOLS.
Witnesses EDGAR E. BARRETT, L. F. MAsoN.
