COMBINED FASTENER AND HANGER Filed Aug. 10, 1933 @Kwan/h llome y Patented May 22, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1,959,745 COMBINED FASTENER AND HANGER Herbert E. Stout, Weehawken, N. J.
Application August 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a combined fastener and hanger for picture frames and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide a number of brackets attached to the rear part of the frame and each having an angle-shaped member pivoted th a backing member in the arm having a hole ture cord or other ereto, one arm of which acts to hold frame and the other therein for receiving the picilexible member.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in 5 the appended will be had to claims.
detail, reference the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throug which:-
Figure 1 is a rear View of a hout the several views, and in picture frame, showing four of the devices carried thereby.

view of one of the angle-shaped members.
Figure 4 is brackets.
a perspective view of one of the In this drawing, the letter A indicates a frame for a picture or the like and the letter a indicates the backing member.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a plurality of brackets 1 which are attached to different parts of the rear portion of the frame A, as shown in Figure 1. Each bracket has pivoted thereto 5 pin being sh through a hol an angle member 2, the pivot own at 3. The pivot pin passes e 4 in one end of the angle member.
wardly and the free end of the arm 2 having a bent-up part to form a nger hold 5.
I prefer to arrange four of these devices on the rear of the frame, as shown in Figure 1, so that the frame can be hung in a vertical position, as
l, by attaching the cord a to the short arms of the members which are attached to the side members of the frame or in a horizontal position by pair of devic attaching the cord a' to the other es shown in Figure 1. As before stated, the long arms, extending over the backing member,
or other member 6 and the will hold this member, the picture glass 7 in the frame,

(Cl. L10-145.1)
that the long arms will not engage the backing member and thus the parts can be removed. As before stated, the projection 5 acts as a finger hold for facilitating the swinging of the devices. If the long arms 2 of the devices engage the back- 60 ing member with suiiicient friction, as they usually do, the devices will remain in the position in which they are placed by hand, due to this friction, but if the weight of the picture frame is greater than this friction, then the two devices 05 to which the cord is attached will swing on their pivots 3 to positions where the short arms will align with the cord.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:-
1. In combination with a frame member and a member supported therein, a number of brackets fastened to the rear part of the frame member, a V-shaped member pivoted to each bracket and having one arm longer than the other, the long arm extending across the member in the frame to hold the said member in the frame, the short arm having a hole therein for receiving hanging cord.
2. In combination with a frame member and a member supported therein, a number of substantially V-shaped members pivotally supported from the rear part of the frame member, each member having one arm longer than the other, the long arm extending across the member in the frame to hold said member in the frame, the short arm having a hole therein for receiving a hanging cord.
