' N. KING CUkTAIN HOLDER Filed April 14, 1922 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Feb. 3, 1925.
PATENT QFFECE.
NELLIE KING, ST, JOSEPH, MISSOURI;
CURTAIN HOLDER.
Application filed April 14, 1922. Serial No. 552,711.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELLIE KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to curtain holders and has for its object the provision of a novel curtain from being blown in and out across,
the sill of the window.
An important object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to install and regulate, efficient and durable in use and a general improvement in the art.
lVith the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window showing my device applied thereto and showing it associated with curtains of the drawn back type, the curtains being in normal position,
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the curtain as being of the more modern style not drawn back and showing the curtain in normal position,
Figure 3 is a front elevation showing the curtain folded up and,
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view with parts in section, of one of the hangers.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the letter A designates a window frame and B designates a curtain which may be of the drawn back type as shown in Figure 1 or of the straight hanging type as shown in Figure 2 this detail being immaterial.
In carrying out my invention I provide a pair of hangers each of which includes a plate 10 with which is pivotally connected an arm 11 terminating in a hook or eye 12. The plate 10 is preferably offset outwardly at its center for the reception of the upset end 13 of the arm 11. v
In installing the device I provide one of the hangers at each side of the window frame, the plates 10 being secured preferably opposite the meeting edges of the sashes. These plates are held in position by means of suitable screws or small nails indicated at 14:. Normally the arms 1.1 depend and in the form shown in Figure 1 I provide cords or tapes 15 which are engaged about the curtains and which are threaded through the eyes 12 for holding the curtains pulled back. When it is desired to move the curtain out of the way it is merely necessary to swing the arms 11 upwardly, whereby the curtain will be folded at about its center and held in such position.
In the form shown in Figure 2 I provide rods 16 which are pivotally connected with the eyes 12 and which are provided at their meeting ends with interengaging hooks 17. In this form of the device the rods 16 are disposed between the curtain and the sashes. When it is desired to move the curtain'out 0f the way it is merely necessary to swing both of the arms 11 upwardly, whereupon the rods 16 will fold the curtain upon itself into the position shown in Figure 3 so that it will be entirely out of the way and will neither obstruct the passage of light or air, nor be in the way when cleaning nor blow across the sill in case the window is left open.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a simply constructed and consequently inexpensive device which is easily installed and operated and which will most efficiently perform all the functions for which it is intended. It is obvious that there is nothing to wear out or to get out of order so that the device should have a long life.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
