4 Claims.
This invention relates to display devices such as are used on a merchants counters, in his window displays and so on, and the object is to provide a device for use with an actual or dummy article of sale to provide in connection therewith a unitary visual effect of advertising value.
My invention will be well understood by reference to the following description of the single illustrative embodiment thereof shown by way of I example in the accompanying drawings, where- Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the display; Fig. 2 is a side elevation as seen from the left of Fig. 1 with parts broken away; and
Fig. 3 is a plan of the blank on a smaller scale. By way of example I have herein disclosed a form of my invention particularly adapted for use with a dispensing container and have here illustrated a carton 5 of a type commonly used for table salt and having a protractible dispensing spout '7.
The embodiment of my invention shown provides a support for the carton 5 including a front panel 9 and a rear panel 11, the adjacent sides thereof (see Fig. 3) being hingedly connected by the integral web 13. The arrangement is such that the two panels may be hinged about the Web and placed one before the other, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2, to form a stand. The upper edge of panel 9 is herein shown as having the recess 15 and the rear panel 11 as having an opening 17 providing spaced bearings for supporting the carton in elevated position, as best seen in Fig. 2. The arrangement may be as indicated in that figure with the carton tilting somewhat forward in a position such as it would assume if the contents were being dispensed through spout 7.
The lower edge of the panel 9 may be provided with the extension 19 hinged thereto and having the lateral bendable flanges 21. The extension 19 may be bent forwardly from the panel and the flanges 21 turned upwardly and the parts held in this position by engagement of tongues 23 on the flanges with suitable slots 25 in the panel 9. There is thus provided a trough-like portion at the front of panel 9 in the nature of a terminal portion 29 distally hinged thereon to rise from a central portion of the trough-like part to the article supported, herein to the dispensing spout 7. Thus, for example, the part 29 may be shaped as shown and suitably printed, as indicated by the stippling in Fig. 1, to simulate a stream of salt falling from the container and piling up in the receptacle which is provided in cooperation with the lower part of the panel 9 by the extension 19 and its flanges 21.
Referring to Fig. 2, the portion 21 of the blank in lateral alignment with the extension 19 and in vertical alignment with the panel 11 may be arranged to fold at right angles to the panel, as indicated in Fig. 2, to form a foot-like support therefor.
It will be understood that normally the exposed faces of the panels 9 and 11 will be suitably decorated to enhance the effectiveness of the display as a whole.
I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and I therefore desire the present embodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive; reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A display device of sheet material comprising a front panel having a bearing for supporting an article, and parts foldably connected thereto and erectable relatively thereto to provide a second spaced bearing for the article, foldable means at the front of the panel to provide a trough-like extension therefrom and a strip extending between said extension and the article supported and suitably delineated to cooperate with the article to form a representation.
2. A display device of sheet material comprising a front panel having a bearing for supporting an article, and parts foldably connected thereto and. erectable relatively thereto to provide a second spaced bearing for the article and an extension from the lower end of the panel having fold lines providing for a forwardly extending portion and an upwardly rising portion terminating adjacent the article supported, the last mentioned portion being suitably delineated to cooperate with the article to form a representation.
3. A display device comprising front and back panels having bearings at their upper parts, a connection between adjacent sides of the same permitting them to be erected one before the other, an extension from the lower edge of the rear panel adapted to be folded at a right angle thereto to form a foot and an aligned extension from the lower edge of the front panel having lateral flaps with means for engaging them with the panel in upstanding position.
4. A display device of sheet material comprising a foldable support presenting spaced bear-
