Description

M. PETRIE. MOSQUITO-BARS.
No. 194,927, Patented Sept. 4,1877.
EtPETERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAPHER, WASNINGI'DN D C UNITED STATE MARGARET PETRIE, OF VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR ONE-HALF HER RIGHT TO AUGUSTUS E. NEWOOMB, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOSQUITO-BARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N01 194,927, dated September 4, 1877; application filed July 5, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, M1'S.MARGARET PETRIE, of Vallejo, in the county of Solano and State of California, have invented an Improved Mosquito-Bar, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to that class of mosquito-bars constructed so as to be attached to the head-board of a bed, childs crib, or cradle, and so arranged as to be expanded or folded down vertically against the standard or support when desired.
In order to better understand the nature and object of my invention, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is an elevation with bar in position; Fig. 2, a plan view with front end expanded.
A A represent two parallel bars, to each of the ends of which are riveted the double arms B B, overlapping each other in the middle, and pivoted, as shown. The arm B is constructed thicker than that of its fellow B, to receive a transverse pin, 0, which is provided with a thread and thumb-screw, G. This pin passes through a vertical standard, D, the lower end of which is provided with forked arms D, which are padded, and also a thum bscrew, E, by which means the bar is attached to the head-board of a bed, cradle, childs crib, or chair.
In practice, where two persons occupy the couch, the bars and arms are placed in a parallel position, or so as to form nearly a square, and provide the greatest possible breathingspace inside when the netting is placed over, as shown in Fig. 1; but when one person only occupies the couch, one or both of the end arms are expanded, and the frame somewhat narrowed, and nearly the same breathing-space provided as when two persons occupy the same couch.
By this means the device is particularly adapted to single beds, cradles, 860. When not in use the frame may be folded up and carried down to the side of the standard by loosening the thumb-screw, and be out of the way until evening or when wanted for use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A mosquito-bar constructed of the parallel bars A, doublejointed end arms B B, and
have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of September, 1876.
MARGARET PETEIE.
