The invention is generally concerned with a hair dress protector particularly adapted to preserve the contour and dress of the hair during the application of a facial although in its broader aspects it is not limited thereto.

In the process of a facial the hair is localized and secured in such fashion as to be away from the face to be treated to enable the operator to have direct access to all parts of the face with- For this purpose, hitherto towels or the like have been customarily employed. In actual practice, theutiliza' tion of towels has been unsatisfactory. First, the towels are relatively heavy and fairly cumbersome to manipulate. Secondly, it is with difllculty that one is secured to the head of the wearer. If secured to the head, there is a tendency for the towel to slide out of place notwithstanding the intensity of the holding action by the securing means. with the displacement of the towels relative to the head it has been found that the dress or wave of the hair is disturbed.

Accordingly, the invention has for one object the provision of a save wave beauty device adapted to be secured to the head of a party preparatory to a facial treatment whereby the contour and dress of the previously treated hair may be preserved during the course of the facial.

The invention has for another object the provision of a relatively light weight hair dress preserver which may be easily and quickly applied to the head of the user and which may be conveniently removed or lifted from the head without affecting the shape or dress of the hair.

The invention has for a further object the provision of a hair dress preserver which will stay in one position relative to the head after being secured thereto.

The invention has for a further object to provide a hair dress device of the character alluded to which will stand up under considerable usage and which may be manufactured at a relatively low cost.

Other objects, advantages and features are in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.

For a clearer understanding of the invention attention is directed to the preferred embodiments shown in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a plan open view of the hair dress preserving device according to my invention.

Fig. 2 is a rear open view of the device with its front complement embracing the head and the terminals thereof removably secured at the back of the neck.

Fig. 3 is a. front perspective and closed view of the hair dress preserving device fastened to the head of the wearer to enclose the hair preparatory to a facial treatment and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view of a modification.

In accordance with the invention the hair dress or contour preserver device comprises a relatively elongated and rectangular body gen- 55 erally denoted 10. This body may be of a suitable light weight foldable material such as, cotton cloth, rayon, rubber or the like. As shown, however, it is of a suitable light weight cloth a which may be readily manipulated. Although, the configuration of the body is a rectangle, other forms may be utilized within the scope of my invention. According to Fig. 1 the outer limits of the body 10 is in the form of a rectangle comprising the front and rear integrally connected components 8 and 9 having respectively front and rear edges 11 and 12 which are disposed in parallelism and which are interconnected with the spaced parallel side edges 13 and 14. A suitable tape as 15 is appropriately fastened to the edges of the body for their reinforcement and to prevent fraying as is well understood.

As illustrated, the foldable body includes four corner portions 16, 1'7, 18 and 19. The apices 35 or terminals of the corresponding corner portions or wings 16 and 18 are each provided with an appropriate holding resilient loop or eye 20 and attached to each of the corresponding apices of the corner portions or wings 1'7 and 90 19 is a complementary holding device or button 21.

The distance between the loop and its associated complementary button 21 of the front and rear reinforced edges may be varied in or: der that the foldable body may be converted into a cap adapted to fit various sizes of heads. For example, this distance may be decreased by disposing a similar complementary holding element or button 22 adjacent the button 21. Button 22 in a similar fashion cooperates with an associated loop 20 of a respective front or rear edge. The front and rear edges may also be increased in length by increasing the distance between the reinforced sides 13 and 14 and buttons as 21 and 22 may be disposed along the front and rear edges 11 and 12 according to the sizes desired. Of course, it is within the province of the invention to employ other fasteningtmeans than loop and cooperating -buttons. In this connection snap fasteners of conventional construction may be obviously utilized for a similar purpose.

In applying the hair dress preserver to the head of hair to be protected, the body 10 is gently placed on the hair and arranged in such fashion that the front reinforced edge 11 is slightly below the hair above the forehead.

Subsequently, the front corner portions 16 and 17 are swung rearwardly to embrace the sides and rear portions of the head and are also so disposed as to be slightly below the lower portions of the hair at the sides of the head and back of the neck. The front corner portions 16 and 17 are then secured to the back of the neck by means of the complementary fastening elements as 20 and 21 disposed on these corner portions. If for example, the periphery of the hair line about the head was of a less length than the distance between a loop 20 and a companion button 21 the resilient loop or eye 20 may be secured to the button 22. In this position, the front edge 11 of the body snugly embraces the forehead, the sides of the head and the back thereof. In this position also the front component 8 of the body to the rear of the front embracing edge 11 holds the hair above the forehead and at the sides of the head in place and the complementary part 9 in front of the rear edge 12. is at the back of the head and hangs slightly above the shoulders of the wearer while the sides 13 and 14 extend laterally and the rear corner portion 18 projects below its respective side 13 and the rear corner portion 19 projects below its respective side 14.

The holding action by the front loop and button is of sufficient strength as to maintain the front edge 11 against the parts of the head below the hair to prevent slippage thereof relative to the head.

To complete the cap or protector according to the invention, the rear wings 18 and 19 now disposed at the back of the. head and above the shoulders are first moved forwardly to arrange the medial part of the rear edge against the back of the neck below the hair line. This is accomplished by first grasping the rear loop and button and subsequently swinging the rear wings 18 and 19 upwardly and forwardly to position the medial part of the rear edge. against the back of the neck. Further lifting of the rear corner portions in the same directions positions the rear edge 12 against the closed complementary part 8 of the body after which the loop and button 20 and 21 of the rear edge 12 are fastened above the front edge 11.

With the free ends of the rear corner portions fastened, the cap or protector takes the form shown in Fig. 3, that is, the rear complementary part of the body is closed to hold the hair at the rear of the head in position and its free ends are detachably held against the front closed complement.

If the rear wings of the body are seured to the front complement, parts of the rear edge now embrace the front complement and in this secured relation the wings also act to prevent the slippage of the front complement relative to the head. In other words, the front complement when closed closely embraces the head of the wearer in such fashion to prevent slippage and the rear complement when closed closely embraces parts of the front complement and also acts. thereagainst to prevent its slippage.

With both of the complements closed, the cap issuing encompasses the hair the contour of which is to be preserved during the course of a facial, it being noted part 23, the top part of the cap, or the central part of the body, is above the top of the hair to prevent interference therewith during treatment of the face.

Having completed the facial, the cap may be quickly and conveniently removed from the head by first disconnecting the rear wings at the front of the head and subsequently disconnecting the front wings at the back of the head. The protector may then be bodily lifted away from the head.

Although, the cap as herein disclosed, may be utilized to preserve the dress or contour of the hair during the course of a facial, it may have other uses. For example, it may be conveniently employed as a house cap, an outdoor cap, a sporting cap, a sleeping cap, etc. and the body of the protector may be made of any suitable elastic or non elastic material.

With the cap applied to the head, the parts of the front and rear complements not secured directly to embrace the head or the front component, are held loosely above the hair on the crown of the head or are disposed closely contiguous thereto without affecting the dress of the hair during treatment or use of the cap.

In the form according to Fig. 4, the body 10 has its front and rear edges as 12 reinforced and each is provided with a suitable elastic as 24 which acts in the case of the front edge against the head below the hair line and in the case of the rear edge against the back of the head and against the front component of the body. In other aspects, the construction of Fig. 4 is identical to that disclosed in connection with Fig. 1.

While I have described my invention in detail and have referred to specific applications thereof I do not intend that the invention herein disclosed may be limited to such specific applications but intend that all matter contained in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:-

1. A relatively light weight body foldable into a cap, the body having a forward edge of a length substantially equal to the perimeter of a member to be embraced, complementary fastening means carried by said edge for detachably securing together the ends thereof at the back of said member, the body having a rear edge of a length substantially equal to the length of the front edge and disposable at the back of said member, said rear edge having complementary fastening means at the ends thereof, the ends of the rear edge being adapted to be swung forwardly and upwardly relative to said member and above said front edge for disconnectably securing together the ends of said rear edge against said body at or above a medial portion of said front edge.

2. A relatively light weight body foldable into a cap the body having a forward edge of a length substantially equal to the perimeter of a member to be embraced, a resilient loop secured to said body at one end of said edge, loop holding means carried at or adjacent an opposite end of said edge, said loop and loop holding means being adapted to detachably secure together said ends at the back of said member whereby said forward edge snugly embraces said member, the body having a rear edge of a. length substantially equal to the length of said front edge, a resilient loop secured at one end of said rear edge, loop holding means mounted at or adjacent an opposite end of said rear edge, said rear edge being disposable at the rear of said member and the ends of said rear edge being adapted to be swung forwardly and upwardly to embrace a medial portion of said body at or above said front edge, said loop and loop holding means of the rear edge being adapted to detachably secure together the ends of the rear edge and hold the last mentioned ends against said medial part.

3. A relatively light Weight substantially pli able body foldable into a cap, said body comprising front and rear components, the front component having a front marginal portion and including corners, said marginal portion being adapted to snugly embrace the peripheral contour of a member, complementary fastening means carried at or adjacent said corners to disconneotably hold together said corners at. the back of said member, said rear component having a rear marginal portion and including corners disposable at the rear of said member, said rear marginal portion being adapted to snugly embrace a part of the rear of said member and the side and front portions of said front marginal component, complementary fastening means carried at or adjacent said last mentioned corners to disconneetably hold the same together against a medial part of said front component.
