The instant invention relates to transitory garments, and more particularly to bath towels adapted to be worn on occasion as partial body garments.

In numerous instances it is well for the inherent modesty of man that he be afforded a temporary, secure, and not unwieldy instrumentality for bodily coverage, i. e., in transit during physical examination, as prior to or during military service; or during passage between lockerroom and shower facilities in recreational centers, to enumerate but a few of said instances.

On these occasions, man has decided that it is not quite feasible to utilize the dressing gown or bath-robe, not only because such items are cumbersome and generally not handily available, but also because man, being on the average a respecter of mass opinion, feels that such efforts will be frowned upon as picayunish.

Accordingly, it is conventional for man to attempt to partially clothe himself in a towel held to his person by some insecure contrivance or by a clutching action of the hands. The latter method restricts the wearer to a freedom of action of one hand only, while the former meth- 0d, at best, is troublesome by its very insecurity, filling the wearer with anticipatory qualms.

As a helpful aid in the above described situations, I have invented novel and useful means for securing a bath towel to the body of a person to serve as a transitory garment.

An object of my invention is to provide a bath towel having means embodied therein to secure said towel in skirt-fashion to the person of a wearer.

Another object of my invention is to provide a bath towel having variable fastening means to adapt said towel to comfortably encompass a portion of the body of persons of widely variable girth.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will be readily apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the drawing forming part of this specification, and in which:

Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of the towel and securing means embodied in the invention;

Fig. 2 is a partial plan view of one of the securing means embodied in the invention; and

Fig. 3 is a partial plan View of the other of the securing means embodied in the invention.

Referring to the drawing for more specific details of the invention, I 0 is a conventional rectangular bath towel having a pair of parallel edges I2 and a pair of parallel edges [4.

A ribbon l6 having one end adjacent a corner of the towel and being arranged parallel to an edge l2 and in close promixity thereto is secured to the towel by a plurality of spaced rows of threads I8 transverse of the ribbon providing a plurality of loops 20.

In the opposite corner of the towel near the same edge [2, a short length of ribbon 22 is secured by threads 24', and at the free end of the ribbon there is secured, as by sewing, a braided knot or cloth button 26.

The towel is adapted to be affixed to the wearer as a pseudo-skirt for purposes above described by encircling the towel about the body with the edges [4 substantially normal to the ground and inserting the button 26 through one of the loops 20 appropriate to the circumferential proportions of the wearer.

When the towel is on the wearer, the button 26 is normally inhibited from passing through the loop 29 to un-bind the garment by the tautness of the ribbon resulting from a slight outward pressure exerted on the towel by the wearer and the weight of the towel supported by the ribbon.

The cloth fastening means allows for repeated launderings of the towel with no deleterious effects to said means. Fastening means of a material other than cloth are generally vulnerable to loss of elasticity, breakage or loss of solid buttons upon stringent repeated laundering.

The absence of metal material in the fastening means prevents the possibility of high heat conducting means coming into contact with the wearers body and causing discomfort to the wearer.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. Fastening means for a skirt-like garment adapted to be worn with the upper edge thereof encircling the waist of the wearer and with the end edges thereof in overlapped relation, said means comprising an elongated strip of fabric gathered into a plurality of substantially semicircular loops along its length and having the portions thereof between the loops secured to the garment, said strip being located adjacent the upper edge of the garment and one of its end edges and being substantially parallel to said upper edge of the garment, and another elongated strip of fabric having an end portion thereof secured to the garment adjacent the upper edge and the other end edge of said garment and having a free end with a button thereon, the secured end portion of said other strip being substantially parallel with said first-mentioned strip and being located in closer relation thereto than the free end of said other strip, said loops being of such
