Description
H. LOFFLER SOCK SUSPENDER Jan. 2, 1934. Q
Filed Sept. 30, 1932 Patented Jan. 2, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application September 30, 1932. Serial No. 635,584, and in Germany July 14, 1930 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a sock suspender in the form of a round rubber cord, the ends of which, for the formation of adjustable loops for attaching the fixation means on the trousers,
pants, braces or the like on the one hand and to the top edge of the socks on the other hand are clamped by means of a lock having two channels of circular cross section and comprising a bow adapted to be laid down and carrying a projecting nose.
Owing to the invention the rapid wear of the rubber cord is avoided as the nose of the clamping bow bears against a protecting plate for the cord so that the rubber cord is not damaged at the clamping point.
The novelty consists in that the clamping bow is mounted on the partition between the two channels of circular cross section and the projecting nose of the clamping bow is provided on the inner side of the bow, so that the nose, during the closing movement of the clamping bow presses the free end of the resilient wall of one of the channels in inward direction against the rubber cord.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows the sock suspender with a holding strap having a button hole.
Fig. 2 shows an adjustable loop with clamping lock.
Fig. 3 shows, on larger scale, the open clamping lock in elevation.
Fig. 4 shows in end elevation the clamping lock closed over a loop.
Fig. 5 shows the connection of the sock suspender with braces.
Fig. 6 shows the sock suspender in use.
The sock suspender consists of a clamping device 1 and of an elastic holding strap 2 having a buttonhole, these two elements being detachably connected the one with the other by means of a rubber cord 3 of circular cross section. The detachable connection is efiected by means of loops 4 arranged on the ends of the rubber cord, one of these loops to be wound around the bow 5 of the clamping device 1 to be clamped on the top edge 9 of the sock and the other to be held in the loop 8 of the holding strap 2 with button hole adapted to be buttoned on a trousers button 11. The loop 8 of the holding strap 2 is closed by means of a press button 7. The length of the sock suspender can be adjusted either by means of the holding strap 2 buttoned on the trousers button 11 or by adjusting the lengths of the loops 4 of the rubber cord 3 by means of clamping locks 12 (Fig. 1) or 15 (Figs. 2-5). The clamping lock 15 consists of a sleeve having two parallel channels 16 and 17 each of circular cross section and of a clamping bow 18 hingedly connected on the portion separating the channels 16 and 17. The clamping of the lock 15, in the channel 16 in which the free end of the rubber cord 3 is clamped, is afiected by folding down the clamping how 18, on the inner side of which a projecting nose 19 is arranged, whereby, when the bow is folded down, the free end of the resilient wall of the channel 17 is pressed inwards against the rubber cord 3.
In order to lengthen or shorten the rubber cord 3, the open lock 15 with the clamped cord end is shifted on the rubber cord 3 to the desired position, whereupon the clamping bow is folded down again.
The construction illustrated in Fig. 5 shows the direct connection of the sockholder to the braces instead of as shown in Fig. 1 to a band with button holes to be buttoned on to a trousers button. In Fig. 5 the upper loop 4 of the sock holder is suspended, together with a buttoning strap 13 of the braces 10 of the trousers 14, in a loop 8 of the braces closed by means of a press button '7.
[claims- A sock suspender, comprising in combination a rubber cord of circular cross section and forming at each end an adjustable loop the one to hold a device to be attached to the trousers, pants and braces and the other to be attached to the top edge of the sock, clamping locks having each two parallel channels of circular cross section one of said channels threaded on the rubber cord the other channel clamping the corresponding end of said rubber cord, a resilient partition separating said two channels of each look, a clamping bow hingedly mounted on said partition, and a nose on the inner side of said clamping bow adapted to press the end of said resilient partition inwards to clamp saidrubber cord when said bow is being moved into the closing position.
