into an arch so that when a razor blade is laid 1 upon the plate the cutting edges of said blade lie in contact with the arched surface of said plate and with a to and fro movement of the razor blade the cutting edges of the latter are sharpened simultaneously.
A further object of the invention is to provide a flexible plate normally in arched condition with the concave surface of the arched plate used for sharpening a razor blade, the flexible plate flexing in synchronism with the vibratory motion of the blade on the said concave surface.
Referring briefly to the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred type of razor blade hone showing the same in position for use.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates a rectangular plate of material which is composed of compressed paper or other suitable fibrous material. This material is preferably porous to permit the application of chemicals which impregnate into the material of the plate. The material of which this plate is formed is preferably flexible. At one end of both the preferred and modified type of plate an opening 11 is formed near the end marginal edge midway the width of the plate. In both the modified and preferred form, the plate is provided with a notch 12 at its opposite end. The opening 11 in the preferred form receives an elongated loop. .This loop consists of two lengths, an upper length l3 and a lower length 14 which are formed in a continuous loop by knotting the ends of the lengths as indicated by the numeral 15. In the modified type of hone a single string 16 is provided. This single string is formed into a loop 17 at one end which is tied in the opening 11 of the modified type of hone plate. The opposite end of this string is provided with a knot 18 which engages and saddles in the notch 12.
The article herein illustrated is adapted to serve as a means for honing simultaneously the parallel, edges of a razor blade of the safety type. In use the plate 10 is arched by spreading the lengths l3 and 14 of the loop in the preferred form of device over the plate so that the length 13 of the loop is spread across the upper surface 19 0 of the plate and the lower length 14 lies in contact with the convex surface of the plate. The lengths l3 and 14 of the loop are somewhat shorter than the length of the plate 10 so that when the loop is spread over the plate 10 the lat- I ter assumes an arched position upon the concave upper surface 19 of the plate the razor blade 26 is laid. The pitch of the cutting edge 21 of the blade 20 will lie flush upon the arched surface of the plate 10 and by a to and fro movement of the razor blade upon this arched surface 19 the cutting edges of the razor blade are honed. In the modified form of device illustrated inFigures 3 and 4, the same operation for sharpening or honing the razor blade is resorted to but instead of using a loop for arching the plate 17, a single string 16 is spread across the plate above the inverted arched surface and is somewhat shorter in length than the length of the plate so that when the knot lies behind the notch 12 of the modified type of device the plate 17 will assume an arched formation as is shown in the preferred type of device.
It is to be noted that the material of which the plates l0 and 17 are formed is essentially composed of a fibrous material porous in texture to permit the impregnation of chemicals such as solvents and thinners. This application is made to construct a honing film upon the plates so that the cutting edges of the razor blades may be more evenly and expeditiously honed.
It is to be noted that certain changes in form and construction may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a hone, a flexible plate member in arched condition, the concave surface of said arched plate member being adapted to conform to the irregularities of a razor blade cutting edge, said plate having an opening at one end and a notch at the opposite end, and means secured in said opening and said notch for normally retaining said plate member in arched condition, the resiliency of the plate causing the latter to flex in synchronism with the movement of the cutting edges of the blade, said plate when archedj eing adapted to have the cutting edges of a razor blade rest on the concave surface thereof, said blade being moved from side to side on said sur- 110 ber, said plate when arched being adapted to have the cutting edges of a razor blade rest on the concave surface thereof, the resiliency of the plate causing the latter to flex in synchronism with the movement of the cutting edges of the blade, said blade being moved from side to side on said surface in the direction of the arch to sharpen said edges.
