IMPROVEMENT'IN MATCH-SAFES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,246, dated July 17, 1877; application filed June 20, 1877. l
The match-safe is provided with a wick,
and the cover which is hinged to the body of the safe is provided with a guard to shield the match and wick from wind.
Figure l represents a top view of my improved match-safe, the cover being open, and
Fig. 2 a side elevation thereof.
The safe is preferably made from sheet metal.
The body a, of the safe, made of any usual shape, is provided with a match-apartment, b, and a wick-apartment, c, in which is placed the wick d.
The cover c is hinged to the body atf, and at one side, near and opposite the upper end of the wick, there is placed and preferably attached to the cover a guard, g, to prevent the wind from blowing out the match when lighting the wick.
The interior of the cover is roughened at h, to serve as a surface for igniting the match,
which may be a common wood match.
By means of the guard to protect the matchflame, I am enabled to use the common wood match under all ordinary circumstances,
Whereas, if it were not for such guard, I should have to supply and use the parlor or wax matches.
The opening 45 permits the wick to be raised as desired.
V The cover, when closed, extinguishes the wick.
