Description

BINDER SHEET FASTENING Filed Nov. 24, 1950 ATTO RN EYS 20 use;
Patented Sept. 19,y 1.933 Y roll of an ironing-machine. i
The general structure of a padded roll for an ironing machine embodies either a* solidi orV hole` lovvA inner .rollh'aving 'ajmetallic covering, the roll being covered by `a pluralityA of thicknesses o ofY fabric. dispcsed'over cellulose or springs-Which 410 givethe roll the properironing resiliency. The fabric covering formed by securing one end` of a strip of fabric to theroll'and then-winding the '.fabricabout the roll is ofsuchnature as to give the goodsironed the desired flnishand the outer endfoft the fabric is left lfree whereby,l since the roll'is rotate'din the" direction of Winding of the fabric, the' fabric Will-bel'freeto' slip `or IWind tighter on -the rollwhich will prevent bunching of the-fabric inl any one spot When the rollisin' The objects of vmy invention 'are 1to provide a fastening means for "securely holdingr the" binder sheet inl 'proper position as relates toy the end thereof adjacent lthe roll; to "provide a'xfasten- 5 ing means which will permit speeding up of assemblyiof thev padded roll by facilitating the change of binder sheets; and to provide a fastening means that Will not detract from the resiliency of the padded roll and such as not to cause bunching of the binder sheet at the point Where 4the one end thereof is secured to they roll during the time the roll is in use.
Various other objects and advantageous features of my invention will be seen in the follow- 5" ing description and one embodiment thereof may be seen in the accompanying drawing wherein similar characters of reference designate corre# sponding parts, and wherein:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary View of an ironing roll 110iwith the binder sheet removed with the exception of one end thereof which is shown secured to the roll by fastening means embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional View taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1;` and Fig. 3 is a perspec- '45"' tive vievv of a hook constructed' in accordance with my invention.
Referring to the drawing, I have shown a fas-r tening means embodying my invention as being applied to an rironing roll 1 that may be of Wood,

In assembling these Vhook-like members or se# curing means in an ironing roll, at each place Arespective hook-v y Where a'hook-like member. is secured, a spring members have `been assembled, the one end of the binder sheetifs secured to the vhook-like members in the mannerhereinbefore described, namely, by passing the slots 13l over'the hooklike members, and the ironing `roll is rotated which Wi1l Wld' .the binder sheet aroundthe roll in successive laps. v
Referring to the drawing andthe preceding description, it will be seen that I have. provided a fastening means Which may be applied to 'an ironing roll and embodies vnumerous advantageous features. For instance, my fastening means permits one free endxof Ya binder Sheet to be 1.05
easily and quickly securedto an ironing roll and is easily and quickly released from such attachment. Another feature resides in the fact that the fastening means or hook-like members are resilient or exible to such an extent that functioning of thespring padding will be in no 'no wiseaffected or the action of the springs retarded. It will be noted that the hook-likemembers in themselves are so constructed as .to be easily and quickly attached to or removed from anironing roll.
What I claim is; 1. In combination with an spring padding thereon, fastening means independent of .said spring padding for securing oneV end of a binder sheet to said roll comprising a resilient hook member, and means for securing said member tosaidroll. i A
2. In combination withY an ironing roll including a resilient padding, fastening meansindependent of said resilientl paddingl for. scouring one end of a binder sheet to said roll comprising a removable resilient hook` -member of substantially equal resilience with the padding and thereby having the hook-like portionvthereof movable in response to compression or expansion .of saidfpadding, and a base A' portion for securing the fastening means to' saidroll.
3. In combination with `an ironing roll including a padding ofthe resilient'metal type, a fastening means, independent of said padding for securing one end oia bindersheet to said roll comprising substantially U-shaped hook members of resiliency substantially equal to that Vmeans beinglof dimensionsto have its top most,
