(Cl. 122-155) My invention relates to improvements in heat ingapparatus, and the same has for its object more particularly to provide the essential operative portions of a boiler in the form of an integral, unitary casting or structure which is simple in construction, eflicientin operation, and inexpensive to manufacture.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a boiler casting in which the essential 10 operative portions or elements are formed without joints or seams in order to render impossible all infiltration .of air into the same, and the escape of gases therefrom.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a boiler casting in which the fluid containing portions and the fuel receptacle, combustion chamber, steam dome and flue portions are all formed as an integral structure and thereby entirely eliminating the necessity for the usual joints which would permit of the infiltration of air into the same, and the escape of gases therefrom and into the building.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a boiler construction which will be free of all joints and crevices, and which will avoid the use of nipples or other connecting means, which must necessarily be used in connection with composite structure, and thereby render impossible the infiltration of air into the boiler, and the escape of gases and soot into the building. 1
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a boiler casting formed as anintegral unitary structure having a relatively large steam 3 dome provided with novel baliling means whereby to insure the production of dry steam under quick firing and other conditions.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a boiler body including a receptacle to receive a circulating heating fluid, a fuel receptacle and combustion chamber portion, a smoke outlet, and a passage or flue extending from the combustion chamber to smoke outlet, all formed as an integral unitary casting.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a boiler body including a double-walled fluid-receiving portion open at its base and closed at its top, and in which the interior of said body forms a fuel receptacle and combustion chamber, and in which the closed top has a water-backed tubular portion constitutinga passage or flue extending entirely through the closed top, and a bafile plate within said. top between the upper side of said passage or flue and the end side of said top, and in which all of Fig. 1. 90
of the said parts are formed as an integral, unitary structure or casting.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a boiler body formed as an integral casting unit and including a double-walled fluid receiving portion open at its base and provided with a relatively-deep hollow top having a passage or flue extending through the same at right angles to the normal axis of said body, and in which the front of the body is formed as a flat panel co-extensive in height with said body, and provided with a plurality of openings, arranged as one above the other and communicating with the interior of said double-walled body.
Further, said invention has for its object to reduce the cost of manufacture and handling to the lowest amount possible, without impairing the strength, efficiency, or operation of the boiler. 1
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out hereinafter.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends my invention consists in the novel features of construction, and in the combination, connection and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, and then pointed out in the claims. i

Fig. 6 isa transverse section on the line 6-6 In said drawings 10 designates a boiler body or casting formed as an integral unitary structure. The said casting consists of a body-portion 11 of substantially circular outline tapering slightly from base to top. and having a relatively narrow, flat front face or panel 12 coextensive in height with said body portion 11. The body portion 11 of said casting consists of an annular double-walled side portion 13 which is open at its base, and provided with a closed, relatively-deep top 14, communicating along its edges with the interior of the doublewalled side portion 13. The space within the side portion 13 and below the top 14 constitutes the fuel receptacle and combustion chamber portion 15, and the upper part of the interior of the hollow top 1 1 constitutes a steam dome l6.
1"! denotes a horizontal tubular portion constituting a passage or flue extending entirely through the top i l from the front to the bael: of said body portion 11. The front end 14 of said passage or flue serves as a c1ean-out opening, to be closed by a door not shown, and the rear end 1 1 serves as a smokemutlet, over which a smoke-hood, not shown, may be secured. The passage or fiue 17 is preferably made elliptical in form and has its longer transverse axis arranged horizontally as shown at Fig. 5, so that it shall be free throughout its length from the upper and lower horizontal wall portions of the top 14. The lower wall of said or flue 17, adjacent to its front end is provided with a vertical opening '18 which communicates with the combustion chamber portion 15 of the casting and serves to provide an extended passage leading from the fuel receptacle and combustion chamber 15 to the smoke outlet la for the travel of the hot gases and products of combustion. V
A baffle plate 19 is arranged centrally within the top 14 between the passage or flue l? and the under-side of said top 14. The baffle-plate 19 is maintained horizontally in spaced relation to said flue and the under-side of said. top 14 by vertical supports 20. The baffle plate in and the supports 20 are cast integrally with said top 14 and the-passage or flue 17 extending through the same.
The front face or panel 12 is provided about midway of its height with a fuel opening 21 communicating with the interior of the body portion 11, and at its lower edge said face or panel is provided with a recessed portion 22 serving as a slicing opening.
The body-portion 11 is provided at its opposite sides adjacent to its base with one or more water inlets or returns 23, and at the center of its top 14, directly above the baille-plate 19, with an outlet 24. The top 14 may also be provided with additional openings 25, 26, 2? for the reception of a thermometer, a gauge and a thermostatic control, respectively.
The front face or panel 12 is made flat in order to permit of the ready and convenient attachment thereto 01": a door frame or frame as indicated in brokenlines at Fig. 1, which may be of different sizes, and carry doors for the flue opening, clean out opening it fuel opening 21, and the slicing opening 22.
In actual use and operation the body portion or casting 10 is mounted upon a suitable base containing usual grate and operating mechanism therefor, and form therewith a complete boiler having only one joint or viz: where the lower edge of said body portion or casting 19, contacts with and rests upon. the upper edge of the base which forms the usual ash pit portion of the boiler. It will thus be apparent that the only joint or seam present in the boiler structure is at a point below the fuel bed and at a level at which no gases are liberated by nor can escape from the fuel mass above the grate.
t is to be noted particularly that by making the essential'parts of the boiler, viz, the fluid 7 receptacle, fuel receptacle and combustion chainher, steam dome, and flue leading from the combustion chamber to the smoke outlet, as an integral unit casting, thenumber of parts is materially decreased, the construction greatly simplified, and the labor in assembling reduced to the minimum.

A boiler casting formed as an' integral unitary structure comprising a transversely-curved double-walled body portion having a relativelyportion, and said passage having an opening providing communication with the interior of said body portion, substantially as specified.
2. A boiler casting formed as an integral unitary structure comprising a substantially-cylindrical double-walled body portion having a rela-.
tively-narrow, flat panel at its front substantially coextensive in height with said body portion and provided with a plurality of openings; said panel providing a support for the securement thereto of the plate work carrying the closures for said openings; said body portion being open at its base, and aclosed, relativelydeep, doubled-walled top provided with a'transverse passage extending therethrough at right angles to the normal axis of said casting; said passage having an opening providing communication from the interior of said casting to, said passage, substantially as specified.
3. A boiler casting formed as an integral unitary structure comprising a double-walled body portion of substantially-cylindrical form having a flat, relatively narrow panel at its front substantially coextensive in height withsaid body portion and provided with a plurality of openings arranged one above the other; said body portion being open at its base, and a closed, relatively-deep, double-walled top provided with a transverse passage extending therethrough at ri ht angles to the normal axis of said body portion; said passage having an opening adjacent to one end thereof providing communication between. the interior of said body portion and said passage, substantially as specified.

A boiler casting formed as an integral unitary structure comprising a transversely-curved double-walled body portion having a fiat front face substantially-coextensive in height with said body portion provided with openings, said flat front portion being adapted to receive the frames carrying the closures for said openings; said body portion being open at its base, and a closed, relatively-deep, double-walled top provided with an opening extending horizontally.
