SHAVING BRUSH Filed Oct. 10, 1932 INVENTOR. lbw/91w J. Jan as.
ATTORNEYJ Patented Aug. 1, 1933 QY i NeBBUS 1 Edward's: Jones,=Columbus,-'Ind.
This invention relates to a shaving brush and more particularly to a brush adapted to be sterilized by an antiseptic solution. g
It is the object of this invention to provide a shaving brush having a handle formed of material of such character as to be impervious to the action of the antiseptic solution, particularly of vitreous material which may be of clear glass.
The handle is hollow and provided with an open top in the form of a cup in which water may be placed, the cup having a suitable holder for an antiseptic tablet. When applied, the cup is filled with water'so was to contact with the tablet contained therein which forms an antiseptic solution from which the water is poured out and the brush dipped into it. This is very important.
Thus, in barber shops, the customer is protected against infection from the bristles of brushes, particularly when used on others.
In a cup-like handle of this character, it is essential that the acids of the solution should not affect the material of the handle and it is also reassuring to the customer to be able to see through a glass cup-like handle and see if the antiseptic tablet is contained therein. Glass or like vitreous substance is found to fully meet these requirements. However,' in forming a vitreous handle, the problem resides in the means for securing the tablet holder therein and removably connecting the brush thereto. This is accomplished by the means hereinafter more fully set forth and described in the following specifications. a
The full nature of the invention will be more clearly understood from the accompanying drawing and the following description and claims:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the brush. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section therethrough. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
In the drawing there is shown a shaving brush comprising the bristles 10.which are rigidly secured in the usual manner within a ring-like head.
11, being clamped firmly in place thereby. Said head is provided with outer screw threads adapted to receive the removable connecting collar 12. The handle 13 is hollow and formed of vitreous material, preferably clear or translucent glass. At the top of the handle, there isan opening-l4 for the reception of water within the cup-like interior. I
The lower portion of the handle is provided with exposed screw threads adapted to mate with the internal threads of the collar 12-whereby the handle may be removably but firmly secured to the head of the brush. Adjacent the lower end tion, an externally threaded head secured to the upper end of the brush portion, an externally terposed between said holder and brush portion 'for preventing leakage of the solution from said of the handle, there is provided a shoulder 15.
Positioned adjacent the head, there is a compressibleflspacing disk 16, preferably formed of cork or rubber which acts both as a spacer and packing or gasket to prevent leakage of water from the cup. Upon the spacing disk, there is mounted a metal anchor disk 17 which abuts againstthe shoulder 15 of the handle, whereby the anchor disk will be firmly held and locked in positien when the handle is screwed in place with respect to the brush. Secured to the anchor disk 1'7 and extending upwardly into the cup-like portion of the handle, there is a spring holder 18 adapted to secure therein the antiseptic tablet 19.
By reason of this construction, a vitreous or glass handle, which is impervious to the efiects of the solution and through which the tablet may be observed, is removably but firmly interlocked with the brush. The collar12 permits of the ready connection of the vitreous handle while the shoulder formed in the handle firmly anchors the tablet holder in position, and causes the com pressible disk to be forced into packing position for preventing leakage.
The invention claimed is:
1. A shaving brush having a hollow handle and a brush portion, an externally threaded head secured to the upper endof the brush portion, an
externally threaded base formed on said handle, an internally threaded collar adapted to mate therewith for removably securing said holder and brush portion together, an internal shoulder formed adjacent the base of the handle, and a holder mounted in said handle adapted to. be clamped in position between said shoulder and thetop of the brush portion.
2. A shaving brush having a hollow handle for receiving an antiseptic solution and a brush porthreaded base formed on said handle, an internally threaded collar adapted to mate therewith for removably securing said holder and brush portion together, an internal shoulder formed adjacent the, base of the handle, a holder mounted insaid handle adapted to be clamped in position between said shoulder and the top of the brush portion, and a compressible packing member inhandle.
3. 'A shaving brush having a hollow vitreous handle closed at one end adapted to receive a solid antiseptic body and solution, said handle being provided with an opening at the other end thereof, a brush portion, a clamping ring for securing the bristles of the brush portion having external screw threads, external screw threads formed on the adjacent end of said handle,'an internally threaded collar adapted to engage said screw threads for removably securing said handle and brush portion, an internal shoulder formed at the adjacent end of said handle, a holder for said antiseptic body positioned Within said handle, and an anchor disk connected with said holder and positioned between the upper end of the brush portion and the shoulder of the handle adaptedto be rigidly clamped therebetween.
4. A shaving brush having a hollow vitreous handle closed at one end adaptedto receive a. solid antiseptic body and solution, said handle being provided with an opening at the other end thereof, a brush portion, a clamping ring for securing the bristles of the brush portion having external screw threads, external screw threads formed on the adjacent end of said handle, an internally threaded collar adapted to engage said screw threads for removabl'y securing said handle and brush portion, an internal shoulder formed at the adjacent end of said handle, a holder for said antiseptic body positioned within said handle, an anchor disk connected with said holder and positioned between the upper end of the brush portion and the shoulder of the handle adapted to be rigidly clamped therebetween, and a compressible disk positioned adjacent said anch01 disk and adapted to be compressed thereby for providing a packing to prevent leakage of solution irom said handle.
