My invention relates to a tag.

It is an important object of my invention to provide a tag, price ticket, or the like which may be securely and easily attached to articles of merchandise of different characters,

and which possesses novel features of construction and arrangement of parts whereby the strength thereof is increased and the installation thereof upon an article facilitated, and the tenacity thereof relative to the article increased, without in any way damaging the article, or requiring piercing thereof.

It is also an important object of my invention to provide a tag or the like of this type which presents no points or projections which can pierce or prick the fingers of prospective purchases while inspecting and handling the articles of merchandise, or while removing the said tag after purchase of the articles.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from a reading of he following description and the drawing, wherein for purposes of illustration I have shown a preferred embodiment thereof.

Referring in detail to the drawing, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout the same, the numeral 5 generally refers to the card or ticket, which can be constructed of any suitable material, and on the front face of which is placed the information or advertising matter. The card or ticket 5 may be made indifferent forms to suit the particular purposes to be carried out.

The numeral 6 generally designates the spring wire clip or tag mounting member. It will be seen that in the embodiment disclosed herein it consists of a flexible wire form having a curved portion 9 lying along the back side of the tag 5 near the upper end thereof as seen in Figure 1. Extensions of the outer ends of this portion 9 pass through the tag to the front side thereof and are directed inwardly so as to lie alongthe front side of the tag, as shown in Figure 2, and form straight portions 7 8. The-inner ends of the portions 7 8 are in spaced relation. Portions on these ends 1 pass through the tag to the back side, cross and form bowed legs 10, 11 which'have a position over the portion 9. As seen in Figure 3 the bowed legs 10 and 11 are at theirintermediate points curved away from the back of the card or tag, and that toward the lower ends thereof they are curvedly and inwardly directed toward and into engagement with the lower part of the back of the card as indicated at 12. Reference to Figure 1 will disclose that at the points 12 the bowed legs 10, 11 have portions 13 directed toward each other. It will also be observed that portions 14; on the lower end of the points 12 are also directed toward each other and then twisted over each other as indicated at 15.- The terminal end of each is provided with an eye 16,

17 respectively, which eyes are carried in side by side relationship in the same plane spaced from the card or tag 5 as seen in Figure 3. These eyes 16, 17 form blunt members for preventing pricking or other injuries to the fingers or goods. The portions 12 are adapted to frictionally engage the back of the card or tag. I

It will be obvious that the curved surfaces presented by the retaining or card mounting member 6 are such as to permit a smooth sliding of the material of the merchandise thereunder and between it and the card 5 so as to be retained thereby, and to be equally easily removed, entirely without injury to or piercing of the material of such articles. The

construction of the retaining member 6 and the spring action thereof in connection with the card or tag 5 will exert a secure hold upon the material ofv the articles of merchandise or the like, so that the card or ticket or tag will not be readily removable or displaceable from thearticle. It will be observed that the use of device of my invention in a merchandising establishment will facilitate uniformity in price tags and the like for merchandise, and advantageously replace the great variety of such tickets and tags usually found necessary for properly marking and identifying articles of merchandise. The tag of my invention may be secured to any type of article of merchandise and for this reason and for other reasons set out herein, it is adaptable to be used without distinguishing variation from the general form disclosed, for all merchandise tagging purposes. It will be observed that the horizontal bowed member 9 is so placedwith relation to the members 7 and 8 that the members 7 and 8 are reinforced against being pulled through the material of the card or tag and that this structure also aids in main taining the spring friction relationship of the retainer with the back of the card or tag. It will be obvious that there is structural strength of an usual degree in construction.

Though I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of my invention thereto, but any change or changes may be made in material and structure and arrangement of parts, consistent with the spirit of the invention and the scope of the subjoined. claims; 7

WVhat is claimed is 1. A tag or the like comprising a plate and a loop clip, said clip including extensions thereof passed through the plate in one direction and returned through the plate in the opposite direction and forming legs bent so as to act. against one side of the plate, the terminal portions of the legs being twisted upon each other, the'legs being crossed at a point outward of the plate where the extensions are returned through the plate.

A tag or the like-comprising a plate and a loop clip, said loop. clip comprising extensions passed through the plate inone direction and returned through the plate inthe opposite direction and forming legs bent so as to act against one side of the plate, the outer ends of the legs being twisted upon each other, and a loop portion joining the extensions and engaged withthe said one side of the plate for reinforcing the same.

A tag or the like comprising avplate and a loop clip, said clip comprising extensions passed through the plate in one direction and returned through the plate in the opposite direction and forming the legs bent-so as to act against one side of the plate, the outer end portions of the legs being twisted upon each other, the legs being crossed ata point near their inward ends, and a loop portion joining the extensions and engaged with said one side of the plate for reinforcing the same.

A tag comprising a plate,-and a 'spring member, said springmember comprisinga portion lying along onesideof the plate, extensions on the said portion passing through the plate and lying along the remaining side of the plate, and legs proceeding from the extensions and passing through the plate to the said one side of the plate and over-the said portion, bowed parts on the legs engaged with the said one side of the plate for clampin an article between the legs and the said one side of the plate, said legs being crossed near the pointwhere they pass over the said portion and spread apart,;portions near the free endsof the legs being then inwardly directed and twisted upon each other.
