Description

zmmzg Apwifl 21 11.9% a. M. DOEBERT HOLD F'AS T DEVICE Original Filed April 16, 1935 H @w swift/5am 1 WWW Patented Apr. 21, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application April 16, 1935, Serial No. 16,693 Renewed January 21, 1936 3 Claims.
The invention relates to a hold fast device and more particularly to hold fast clothes pins.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the same when in use and engaged over a line bearing clothes or other articles the latter will be prevented from the accidental falling from the line, due to Windy weather, and such device will have maximum life irrespective of the amount of usage thereof, it being practically indestructible and is readily and easily applied to a line and removed therefrom.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the same supports a display sign adaptable to bear advertising matter, the device in its entirety being of novel construction.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its operation, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as Will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 3 is an edge elevation.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a rear elevation of a modified form.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, particularly Figures 1 to 4, inclusive, the device which is in the nature of a hold fast clothes pin, come prises opposed substantially circular resilient jaws or clips l0 and II, respectively, both being made from a single length of inherently resilient wire convoluted or coiled and the ends of this wire are brought together and linked by hook terminals I2, these terminals being disposed slightly offset from the jaw or clip I0 and inwardly toward the center thereof. The jaw or clip Ii is angularly bent at I3 so that the portion will outwardly diverge from the portion adjacent thereto of the jaw o-r clip l0 thereby permitting easy entrance of a clothes line between the jaws or clips l0 and H on pressing the clothes pin over such line for the fastening of articles hung thereon.
The jaw or clip I0 has formed therein transversely aligned bights l4 constituting seats for the line when engaged between the jaws or clips l0 and H and assuring hold fast action of the device.
A display plate I5 is carried by the device and the same is formed with bendable tongues 16 which are folded over and about the wire at opposite sides of the hook terminals I2 thereof and this plate l5 at its exposed side is adapted to carry suitable advertising indicia.
In Figures 5 and 6 of the drawing there is shown a modification, wherein the ends ll of the wire are received in a tubular coupling [8 and the plate I9 is worn by this coupling, the tongues 20 of the plate being bent about the coupling for the fastening of the plate in place as will be clearly apparent in Figure 6 of the draw- The jaws or clips l0 and I l are side by side and make contact with each other under inherent resiliency thereof so that when the same are spread apart they have spring action toward each other for assuring a firm clamping of a part therebetween.
What is claimed is:
l. A device of the kind described, comprising a pair of coils arranged side by side and formed from a single length of inherently resilient wire, means at the ends of the wire for joining the same together and disposed to one side of one coil and toward the center thereof, and. a display plate carried by said means.
2. A device of the kind described, comprising a pair of coils arranged side by side and formed from a single length of inherently resilient wire, means at the ends of the wire for joining the same together and disposed to one side of one coil and toward the center thereof, a display plate carried by said means, one of the coils having aligned bights transversely of the same, and an outbent portion formed from one of the coils to provide an entrance space between said coils.
3. A device of the kind described, comprising a pair of coils arranged side by side and formed from a single length of inherently resilient wire, means at the ends of the wire for joining the same together and disposed to one sideof one coil and toward the center thereof, and a display plate carried at and overlying the joined ends of said wire.
