WAXING-AND PoLIsHIivG DEVICE Applicationi filed-Tune c, 1932,. 'SerialNo. 615,754.
' The object of the invention is to provide a device for either commercial or domestic use first apply wax to a floor,
ing operation by the simple expedient of inverting the device; to provide a device of the kind ways available by providing a large 'source of supply, so that the periodic application of wax may be unnecessary; to-provide awaxing device the means having the additionalfunction of a bumper to" precludedamage in theevent device with the wall surfurniture; and generally to provide a waxer and polisher which is of simple of impact of the face'or with form and therefore susceptible of cheap manufacture; l i I v With this object ill- View, the invention of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is aview partly in elevation and partly. in section of the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan View; s v Figure 3 is a'plan view of the brush head Figureif is a detail elevational view of a portion showing the brush head latch seat.
' Figure 5 is a detail sectional viewillustrating the connection between the handle and the i I a Y rically opposite sides of the cylinder and '90 open at the top ofthelatter and in these bail. r
Figure 6'is a sectional view on the plane indicated bythe line 6 -6 of Figure 5 Figure 7 is an end view of the structure of -Fi'gure5. i
The invention comprises a waxing head 10 and a polishing 'head' 11 positioned respectively at the remote ends of a cylindrical member 12 which constitutes a wax magazine ior reservoir or chamber. The waxing head 10 is preferably of annular or ring form and indicated which incorporates a wax: chamber or magazinethatwill make wax al that will eifectan'even and thin spreadof the wax; to provide a COIlStI'IlCtlOIl' employing a fabric,
:is moved over the floor surface.
of the wall of the waxchamber plate, so that c the block. v By opening at the slots permit removal of the 95 L blockwithout disconnecting fromthe bail. i
is peripherally grooved, the cylindrical mam ber 12be1ng received in the eye or opening of the ring. Thus the wax chamber which. the cylindrical member defines has its bottom inthe'plane of the under face of the waxing head and this bottom would be opened were it not for the fact that the fabric 14 which is stretched across the'head closes it. The f fab ic 1a is preferably cheesecloth and may i be in one or'more layers ori'pl'ies, depending on how fast it is desiredto apply thewax,
' The fabric is ret'ained in place by means of they elastic, ring 15 which seats ;in' the peripheral groove. of the head. The fabric may thus bev stretched, and fretain'ed such stretched condition, the ring 15in addition 7 to' functioning as 'a retainer, serving as a bumper to prevent impact of the head with wall surfaces or the furniture when the head Wax application "s'hadbf charging the cylinder 12 with the desired jamountof waxwhich is disposed directly on top of the cloth I .or fabric 14 and this wax isfed through the v a block 16 made if V latter by meansof a pressure preferably-of cast iron and of su'flicient thick V ness to provide the necessary Weight,"f the block' being freely movable in the cylinder vertically; i
The handle 'theblock, the bail carrying collar, 20 disgBBi clearance slot in the bracket therewill' be no relative lateral movement between the block and bail. Clearance slots 21 are provided 'at diamet-' posed in the slots the bail moves to permit direct appli-' cation to the wax contents of the weight of the upper end of the cylinder,
7 The polishing member 11 acts as a closure to the upper end'of the cylinder andis re movably latched to the latter, being provided with brackets 22 in which spring actuated 160 by which ,n1ove1nent, of the I head over the floor surface is effected is'coni 2 to maintain the latch pins 23 are mounted. These latch pins ripheral binding 27 of rubber or the like and carries a block 28 or the like in which the bristles 29 are mounted.
handle, a ferrule 30 is mountedon the lower end of thehandle and the arms of the bail have the extremities bent as of 31 inserted inthe protrudingend of the ferrule where 2 the outturned ends 32 'pass through openings or holes in the ferrule. A key member 33 inserted in the protruded end of theferrule betweenthe bent terminals of the bail and pinned to the ferrule as indicated at 84, serves engagement of the bail With the ferrule.
' The polishing head is provided at diametrically opposite sides with bail seats 35 in which the bailengages' when the device is 30 inverted'for polishing.
' J The latch pinsprovi'de forreadily removing the polishing head and when this is done, the cylinder may be charged with wax after removing the 'n essurebleck; A half or full 351 box of wax, having been placed in the cylin- IW der, the pressure blockis replaced and the polishing head reattached. The waxing op eration may then bejproceeded with, the head being. moved back and forth across the floor (it), through theinstrumentalityof the handle 17 and the block 16 applying pressureto force the wax through the fabric or clothla. The waxing operation having been completed, polishing is accomplished by inverting the 4g -head to dispose the polishing head clownwardly when the'weight of the block is transferred direct to the head by the bail engaging seats 35 in the latter. The handle then serves as a'means for ren'ioving the head to fig carry out the polishing operation as it did the waxing operation.
What is claimed as new and useful is: l. A floor waxing device comprising a waxing head formed with an open bottomed 5s'wax receiving chamber, a fabric'stretched 0 across the head and closing the chamber at the bottom, a weight slidably disposed in the chamber for the application of pressure to any wax contents thereof, and a handle to p impart sliding movement to the waxingi head, the wax chamber havmg a, removable closure disposed above said weightprovided with bristles 0I1'1tS top face to constitute a To effect connection between the bail and her, a pressure block dimensional according to the chamber and slidably mounted therein on any wax contents of the chamber, a handle having a swinging'mounting with the pressure block, a removable closure for the upper end of the wax chamber, and said closure on its upper face being provided with bristles, the waxing. head being invertibleto dispose thebristles downwardly forpolislr ing.
,3. A polishing device comprising a ring like polishing headformed with a central: 1y disposed cylindrical wax receiving cham= ber open at its bottom, a fabric stretched across and peripherally secured to the head andclosing the bottom of the chamber, a
pressure block slidably mounted in thechamher for the application of pressure to the waX contents thereof, a handle, a bail having a swinging connection with the pressure block and passing through vertical slots in the Wall of the wax chamber, the bail being connected with the handle, and a bristle carrying member releasablyconnected with the wax cham= her and closingthe' latter at .the top, the c0nnection between the bail and pressure block permitting inversion of the head todispose the bristlecarrying member downwardly forpolishing.
t. A polishing device comprising a ring like polishing head formed with a centrally disposed cylindrical wax receiving chamber open at its bottom, a fabric stretched across andperipherally secured to the head and, 7
closing the bottom .of the chamber, a pressure block slidably mounted in the chamber for-the application of pressure to the wax contents thereof, a handle, a bail having a swinging connection with the pressure block and passing through vertical slots in the Wall of the wax chamber, the bail being connected.
with the handle and a bristle carryin member releasably connected withlthe waxchama her and closing the latter at the top, the
connection between the bail and pressure block permitting inversion of the head to dispose the bristle carrying member down wardly for polishing, the latter having seats for engagement with the bail in the inverted position of the head to transfer the weight of the pressure block directly to the bristle carrying member.
