This invention is a novel improvement in devices for manually waxing, sandpapering, or polishing floors. or the like of the type shown in my U. S, Letters; Patent No.- 2,532,9v79 dated December 5, 1950,- and theprincipal object thereof is to provide a device which willbe simple and, eflicient, same consisting of a-Ininimurn number of parts secured together in a novel manner, andincluding a blocktowhich is attached a hinged handle, said block carrying-areservoir and feeding means for supplying wax to'the bottom of the device.

Other minor objects of the invention will be hereinafter set forth.

Ilwill explain .the invention with reference to the accompanying drawing, which. illustrates one practical embodiment thereof, to enable others to adopt and use the same; and will summarize in the claims, the novel features of construction, and novel combinations of parts, for which protection is desired.

As shown, my novel device consists of a base member comprising a plate 1, of rectangular shape, the peripheral edges of the plate being bent back upon themselves as at in, and the edges being further bent upwardly as at 1b, inset from the outer edges of the bent portions in. The upturned portions 1b at the short edges of the plate 1 are then further bent outwardly as at (Fig. 1) to form lips overlying the portions 1a, the same being disposed parallel therewith but spaced therefrom. The upturned portions 1b at the longer edges of plate 1 have their ends soldered, welded, or otherwise secured to the ends of the shorter portions 1b of plate 1 to form arigid unit.

Around the upturned portions 11) of plate 1 between the return bent portions 1a and the lips 1c is a clamp member formed in sections, each consisting of a strap 7 bent to extend around a corner of the base 1, with its ends terminating substantially at the midpoints of the two adjacent sides of the corner, the ends of the strap 7 being outturned as at 7a, and the outturned portions being perforated to receive screws or bolts 8, whereby the sections of the clamp can be tightened around the base 1. Obviously, the number of sections 7 of the clamp may be changed, as desired.

When the clamp 7 is removed, the base 1 may be placed upon a sheet of fabric F (Fig. 2), and the edges of fabric F may then be turned upwardly to overlie the upturned portions 1b, and the clamp sections then applied around the upturned portions of the fabric F the sections being secured together by the bolts or screws 8 so as to securely clamp the fabric F to the portions 1b of the base.

The central portion of bar 19 is provided with a thickened boss 19a which is threaded as at 1% to receive a screw shaft 20 having a knob 21 or the like on its upper end whereby the shaft may be readily rotated, the screw shaft when the bar 19 is in the position shown in Fig. 2 being disposed axially of the receptacle 11. The lower end of screw shaft 20 is rotatably connected preferably by a member 22 with a piston 23 of diameter to fit snugly within the receptacle 11 and adapted to force the wax W therein downwardly when the screw shaft 20 is rotated to depress the piston. When, however, the piston 23 is in its uppermost position immediately below the bar 19, and the flattened ring 16 moved outwardly on the flange 14b so as to disengage the bar 19, the bar 19 with the piston 23 and screw shaft 20 may be swung upwardly out of alignment with the receptacle 11 so that the empty receptacle 11 can be removed and a filled receptacle 11 inserted in its place in block 10.

When piston 23 is depressed in the receptacle obviously the wax W will be forced downwardly between the fabric F and the bottom of plate 1, to supply wax throughout the full area of the lower face of plate 1. The above arrangement provides a simple, novel and efficient wax container and feeding means for my device.

A handle for moving the device across a floor or the like is provided, the same consisting of a socket member 25 for receiving a handle stick 26 in the usual manner,

said socket carrying a U-shaped bail 27 having inturned ends 27a at the outer ends of its legs, the ends 27a engaging hinge pads 28 which are secured by screws 29 or the like to the top of block 19 at opposite sides of receptacle 11, thus allowing handle stick 26 to pivot in a vertical plane for convenience in manipulating the device across the floor.

Instead of utilizing fabric F and wax W, it is obvious that a sheet of sandpaper may be similarly applied to the plate 1 and the device used for sandpapering floors or the like, the clamps 7 securing the sheet of sandpaper firmly against the upturned portions 1b of the plate 1 in the same manner that the fabric F is clamped thereto.

I claim:

1. A device of the character specified, comprising a base plate; a flexible porous sheet marginally clamped across the bottom of the base plate providing a space between the sheet and base plate; said plate having a central opening therethrough; a receptacle for wax or the like removably mounted on the plate, and having an open bottom registering with said plate opening; means for forcing the wax inwardly of said receptacle towards the plate and within the space between the sheet and bottom of the plate; a handle operatively connected to the plate; said receptacle having an open top; opposed brackets operatively connected to the plate disposed at opposite sides of the receptacle; a bar hingedly mounted on one bracket and overlying the top of the receptacle with its outer end contacting the other bracket; means for locking the outer end of the bar to said other bracket; and said forcing means comprising a screw shaft threaded through the center of the bar, a plunger rotatably carried by the lower end of the screw shaft and adapted to fit within the receptacle, and means on the upper end of the screw shaft for rotating said shaft.

2. A device of the character specified, comprising a base plate; a flexible porous sheet marginally clamped upon the bottom of the plates providing a space between the sheet and base plate; said plate having a central opening therethrough; a block on said plate having a bore registering with said plate opening, said block having a shoulder in its bore at its lower end; an open ended removable wax receptacle mounted in said bore with its lower 4 V end seating on said shoulder; means for forcing the wax inwardly of said receptacle towards the plate and into the space between the sheet and the bottom of the plate; a handle secured to the said block; opposed brackets on the block at opposite sides of the receptacle; a bar hingedly mounted on the top of one bracket and adapted to overlie the top of the receptacle with its outer end resting upon the top of the other bracket; means for locking the outer end of the bar to said other bracket; and said forcing means comprising a screw shaft threaded through the center of the bar, a plunger rotatably carried by the lower end of the screw shaft and adapted to fit within the receptacle, and a knob on the upper end of the screw shaft.
