tainer and also to impart the proper pressure upon a surface for the placing of the wax properly upon the said surface, the device preferably being used for floor waxing.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein the container for the liquid wax carries a detachable handle and the applicator or distributing roller can be covered when the device is not in use to avoid free flow of the liquid wax from the container during inactivity of the said device and also to protect such liquid wax from contamination with dust, dirt or the like while the device is stored or inactive.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, novel in the assembly thereof, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in operation, easily handled, assuring proper waxing of a surface in the working thereof, and inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in View, the in- I Vention consists in the features of construction,

combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

In the accompanying drawing:

Figure 1 is a front elevation partly in section of the device constructed in accordance with the invention and having the handle detached.

Figure 2 is a View partly in section and partly in elevation of the device, the latter being in full lines while illustrated by dotted lines is a cover part for said device.

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the device with the cover part removed.

Figure 4 is a bottom plan View with the applicator or distributing roller detached.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.

Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally the floor waxing device cone structed in accordance with the invention. The device A comprises a container 5 forming a reservoir B for liquid wax. This container 5 has built therewith a filling spout 1 having a detachable cap 8. The spout enables the filling of the container 5 with the liquid wax.

United with the top of the container 5 is a bar 9 which protrudes beyond opposite ends of said container and these ends create perforated ears I0. In the perforations II therein is received the upper threaded or screw terminal portions I2 of hangers I3. The hangers i3 arearranged adjacent to opposite ends of the container 5 and journaled therein is the axle I4 of a distributing roller or applicator E5 which is located at the bottom of the said container 5. This roller or applicator I5 is preferably provided with an absorbent band I6 of felt or the like on its periphery for the absorption of liquid wax discharged from the container 5 and also the application of said wax to 'a surface.

The bottom of the container 5 next to the roller or applicator I5 is built with a riblike, perforated projection IT. The perforations therein are indicated at I8 and form outlets for the discharge of the liquid wax within the container 5 onto the roller or applicator I5. These perforations l8 open into a concaved seat I9 conforming to and receiving the roller or applicator I5 when pressed into contact therewith.

At the top bar 9 and a part thereof intermediate with respect to its ends is a flatfaced lug 20 for clamping engagement therewith of the coupling or clamping end 2| of a handle 22. The end 2| has fitted thereto a binding screw 23 for detachably fastening the said end to the lug 25 for the removable securing of the handle to the' container 5. I

Surrounding the terminals I2 of the hangers and seated against the latter and also against the ears I 0 are coiled compression springs 24. The terminals i2 are adjustably fastened in the ears ID by winged nuts 25 threaded upon said terminals. The function of the springs is to urge the roller or applicator I5 out of the seat I9 providing the nuts 25 are sufiiciently loosened on the terminals I 2 to allow this unseating of the roller or applicator. The springs 24 maintain the roller or applicator I5 under tension so that when pressure through the handle 22 is imposed upon the container 5 the roller or applicator I5 will be forced against a surface and on the rotation thereon the liquid wax within the container 5 will flow from the reservoir 6 through the perforations l8 directly onto the said roller or applicator and thence be applied by the latter to a surface for the waxing of the same.

Adapted to cover the roller or applicator l5 when the device A is inactive or stored is a cover part 26 which frictionally telescopes over the container 5 at the bottom portion thereof to confine the roller or applicator within said cover part and in this way protecting contamination of the liquid wax with dirt, dust or the like, and additionally avoiding wasting of the liquid Wax from the container 5.

By adjusting the wing nuts 23, the roller or applicator 15 can become seated at I!) and in this way closing the perforations I8 so as to prevent leakage of the liquid Wax from within the reservoir 6 of the container to without the same when such device A is inactive or stored within an enclosure.

The handle 22 is composed of separable sections interfitted one with the other and separable from each other.

The bar 9 can be either made fast to the container 5 or loosely saddle the latter at the top thereof.

What is claimed is:

1. A waxing device comprising a container having a bottom provided with a perforated seating projection throughout said bottom for discharge of the contents of said container therethrough, a roller for seating in said projection, hangers supporting said roller, a bar having the hangers engaged therewith and arranged at the top of said container, means tensioning the hangers, a lug on said bar, and a handle for clamping engagement with said lug.

2. A waxin device comprising a container having a bottom provided with a perforated seating projection throughout said bottom for discharge of the contents of said container therethrough, a roller for seating in said projection, hangers supporting said roller, a bar having the hangers engaged therewith and arranged at the top of said container, means tensioning the hangers, a lug on said bar, a handle for clamping engagement with said lug, and means clamping the handle to said lug.

3. A waxing device comprising a container having a bottom provided with a perforated seating projection throughout said bottom for discharge of the contents of said container therethrough, a roller for seating in said projection, hangers supporting said roller, a bar having the hangers engaged therewith and arranged at the top of said container, means tensioning the hangers, a lug on said bar, a handle for clamping engagement with said lug, means clamping the handle to said lug, and means for adjusting the hangers when connected to said bar.

4. A waxing device comprising a container having a bottom provided with a perforated seating projection throughout said bottom for discharge of the contents of said container therethrough, a

roller for seating in said projection, hangers supporting said roller, a bar having the hangers engaged therewith and arranged at the top of said container, means tensioning the hangers, a lug on said bar, a handle for clamping engagement with said lug, means clamping the handle to said lug, means for adjusting the hangers when connected to said bar, and an absorbent band covering said roller.

5. A waxing device comprising a container having a bottom provided with a perforated seating projection throughout said bottom for discharge of the contents of said container therethrough, a roller for seating in said projection, hangers supporting said roller, a bar having the hangers engaged therewith and arranged at the top of said container, means tensioning the hangers, a lug on said bar, a handle for clamping engagement with said lug, means clamping the handle to said lug, means for adjusting the hangers when connected to said bar, and an absorbent band covering said roller, the said roller on adjustment of the hangers in the bar being seated in the said perforated projection for regulating the flow of contents from the container.

6. A waxing device comprising a container having a bottom provided with a perforated seating projection throughout said bottom for discharge of the contents of said container therethrough, a

roller for seating in said projection, hangers supporting said roller, a bar having the hangers engaged therewith and arranged at the top of said container, means tensioning the hangers, a lug on said bar, a handle for clamping engagement with said lug, means clamping the handle to said lug, means for adjusting the hangers when connected to said bar, an absorbent band covering said roller, the said roller on adjustment of the hangers in the bar being seated in the said perforated projection for regulating the flow of contents from the container, and a capped filling spout built with said container.

7. A waxing device comprising a container having a bottom provided with a perforated seating projection throughout said bottom for discharge of the contents of said container therethrough, a roller for seating in said projection, hangers supporting said roller, a bar having the hangers engaged therewith and arranged at the top of said container, means tensioning the hangers, a lug on said bar, a handle for clamping engagement with said lug, means clamping the handle to said lug, means for adjusting the hangers when connected to said bar, an absorbent band covering said roller, the said roller on adjustment of the hangers in the bar being seated in the said perforated projection for regulating the flow of contents from the container, a capped filling spout built with said container, and a cover part frictionally telescoped onto the container for enclosing the roller and the perforated projection at the bottom of said container.
