United States ,Patent PASTE WAX APPLICATOR Powell W. Stabler, Welcome, N.C. Application December 3, 1958, Serial No. 777,911
4 Claims. (Cl. 15-131) 'I'hs invention relates to a paste wax applicator and has 'as its primary object the provision for giving an even flow of paste wax over the lloor on which it is used.
An additional object of this invention is the provision of a paste wax applicator that is easy to iill and operate with a minimum of loss of wax.
Still another object of this device is the provision of a paste wax applicator that will have a minimum number of parts, be of low cost to manufacture, require little or no maintenance and little space for storage when not muse.
Other and further objects and advantages of this device will be hereinafter described, and the novel features thereof dened in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a plan view of this device.
Fig. 2 is a bottom view of this device with the pad removed, looking upward towards the top.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially along line 3-3 of Fig. l as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Similar reference characters refer tol similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Having reference now to the drawing in detail, there is generally indicated by the character 5 a body, boxlike in shape, having a bottom 6 containing a plurality of slots 7 through which paste wax may flow as will be described in the operation of this device.
A pressure plate 8 having its edges turned downward is located inside of said body 5. Mounted in the center of said pressure plate 8, and suitably attached thereto is a rod 9 which passes through boss 10 of top 111 of this device. Attached to top 11 is spring 12 which exerts a downward pressure on said rod 9 and pressure plate 8. Also attached to said top 11 is handle support 13 having a threaded boss 14 through which passes end 18 of handle 15. Y
Secured to bottom 6 of this device is -a pad 16, said pad being made of felt or similar absorbent material through which paste wax may be forced. Said pad 16 has its edges turned upward around said body 5, and is held thereto by means of band 17, which is suitably fastened by any desired means.
To till the paste wax .applicator with paste is a very One has only to remove top V11 of this apparatus, lift pressure plate 8 out of said body 5 and fill `said body 5 with as much paste -wax W as desired, placing pressure plate 8 on top of said wax W. Top 11 is then replaced, and the said apparatus is ready for use. The actual use of this apparatus on a floor needs no description. A slight turn of handle 15 in a clockwise direction from time to time will insure a continuous flow of paste wax W out slot 7, through pad 16 onto the floor. Since end 18 of said handle 15 will exert pressure on spring 12 through rod 9, said pressure is transmitted downward through rod 9 to pressure plate 8, which presses vertically downward against said paste wax W.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is Pte-fes 9e, 2.01959 Y 2 herein provided an improved paste wax' applicator which accomplishes all ofthe objectsof this invention, and: others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made'of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodimenthereinbefore shown and described, it will be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
l. In a. paste wax applicator, a body having a bottom containing a plurality of slots through which wax is delivered, a removable top on said body, said top having an opening, a vertically movable pressure plate within said body, a rod extending from center of said pressure plate and extending upward through said opening in said top, an arm pivotally att-ached to said top, said arm having a curved upper end resting on the end of said vertically extending rod, a handle support attached to said top, having a threaded opening, a handle passing through said support and having one end pressing against said ann below the curved end thereof imparting a controlled pressure to said pressure plate, and an absorbent pad covering said slots onto which wax flows from said body for application to a floor surface.
2. In a paste wax applicator, a body having a bottom containing a plurality of slots through which wax is delivered, a removable top on said body, said top having an opening, a vertically movable pressure plate within said body, a rod extending from center of said pressure plate land extending upward through said opening in said top, an arm pivotally attached to said top, one end of said arm resting on the end of said vertically extending rod extended through said top, a handle support having a threaded opening attached to said top, a handle having one end threaded in said threaded opening of said support, said end pressing against said arm imparting a controlled downward pressure to said pressure plate, Iand an absorbent covering under said slots onto which wax ows from said body for application to a lloor surface.
3. In a paste wax applicator of the character described, comprising a body having a bottom containing a plurality of slots through which wax is delivered, a removable top on said body, said top having an opening, a vertically movable pressure plate within said body, a rod extending from the center of said pressure plate and extending upward through said opening in'said top, a spring arm attached to said top, the upper end of said spring `arm resting on the end of said vertically extending rod, a handle support attached to said top and extending upward and over said spring arm and end of said vertically extending rod, said support having a threaded opening over said spring arm, a handle having one end threaded, said threaded end extendingthrough said threaded opening in said support, and pressing against said spring arm imparting a downward controlled pressure to said pressure plate, and a replaceable absorbent covering under said slots through which wax llows from said body for application to a oor surface.
4. In a paste wax applicator, a body having a bottom containing 4a plurality of openings through which wax is delivered, a removable top on said body, said top having an opening, a vertically movable pressure plate within said body, a rod extending from center of said pressure plate upward through said opening in said top, a spring arm attached to said top, said spring arm having a curved upper end resting on top of said rod, a handle support attached to said top and extending upward and v over said spring arm and end of said rod, said support having a threaded opening over said spring arm, a handle having one end threaded, said threaded end ex- References Cited in the le of this patent UNITED sTATEs PATENTS Schrader June 27, 1933 FOREIGN PATENTS Germany Aug. 25, 1930
