Description

May 30, 1933. c. PAPPALIAS STOCK SHEET FOR POSTAGE STAMPS Filed Jan. 23. 1932 HIS ATTORN EYS Fatented May 30, 1933 UNITED STATES CONSTANTINE PAPPALIAS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS STOCK SHEET FOR POSTAGE STAMPS Application filed January 23, 1932." Serial No. 588,469.
This invention relates to certain novel improvements in stock sheet for postage stamps, and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly eflicient in use and economical in manufacture.
The present invention relates to stock sheets for postage stamps or the like whlch are bound by means of a loose leaf binder or otherwise to form a book contaimng specimens of the stock of apostage stamp dealer.
An object of my invention is to provlde a stock sheet, strips on the sheet providing pockets to receive the stamps, and readily visible index tabs on the strips adapted to bear indicia or information for ready reference relative to the stamps, such as the price, catalog number, etc., of the stamps.
The principal object of my invention is to provide indicia-bearing tabs on the pocket-providing sheets for ready reference relative to the catalog number, prlce, etc., of the stamps displayed in the pockets.
Other objects will appear erelnafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawlng, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of construction of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view on line 22 in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view on line 3-3 in Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of another form of construction of the invention.
In the drawing 10 indicates a sheet of suitable material such as paper, cardboard or the like, which has pasted to it at one edge a piece of canvas 11 or the like, to which in turn is pasted a narrow strip 12 of cardboard or the like and which serves as a binding element adapted to be fastened to a loose leaf binder or the like.
According to my invention I provide the sheet 10 with a plurality of parallel pockets 13 by attaching, thereto strips 14 of substantially uniform width so as to overlap one another; the upper edge of each strip 14 being unattached to the sheet 10, one end of each of the strips 14 being confined in the strip 11 and the other end of each strip 14 being confined in a strip 15 of canvas or the like attached to the sheet 10.
In the construction illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive 1 provide two parallel rows of pockets 13 and each of the strips 14 includes a portion projecting above the upper edge of the'corresponding strip 14 and providing an index tab 16 at the end of each pocket 13; there being two tabs 16 on each strip 14 in the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 3 since in this form of the invention there are two rows of pockets 13 on the sheet 10 while in the form of the invention shown in Fig. 4 there is only one tab 16 on each strip 14, there being only one row of pockets 13 on the sheet 10 in the form shown in Fig. 4.
In use stamps 17 or the like are confined in the pockets 13 with portions thereof exposed to view and on the tabs 14 indicia are inscribed for ready reference relative to the price, catalog number, etc., of the stamp in the pocket adjacent the tab, and it is in the provision of these tabs that my invention resides.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying 8 my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the. scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is: i
1. A stock sheet for postage stamps or the like having a plurality of pockets made of parallel strips overlapping one another and each having a portion attached to said sheet so that the upper edge of each strip is unattached to the sheet, and each of said strips including a portion projecting above the upper edge of the strip providing an index tab for the stamp or stamps in the adjacent pocket.
2. A stock sheet for postage stamps or the like having a plurality of parallel rows of pockets made of parallel strips overlapping one another and each having a portion attached to said sheet so that the upper edge of each strip is unattached to the sheet, and each of said strips including spaced portions projecting above the upperedge of the strip providing index tabs for the stamp or stamps in the adjacent pockets.
3. A stock sheet for postage stamps or the; like having a plurality of pockets made of parallel strips overlapping one another and each having a portion attached to said sheet so that the uooer edge of each strip is unattached to said sheet, and an index tab on the upper edge of each 01": said strips.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CON STANTIN E PAPPALIAS.
