My invention relates to an improvement in calendars wherein it is desired to provide a calendar sheet bearing indicia designating the days of the month and also containing memorandum of happenings during the month. I

It is often desired to combine with 'a calendar of an ordinary type, a memorandum device, whereby happenings during the month may be noted, or wherein the budget for the month may be kept. It is also desirable in a calendar of this type to support the same in such a manner that the calendar portion thereof designating the days of the month may be readily visible, but wherein the memorandum portion is concealed from sight in normal position. This permits the keeping of data in a concealed place while the indicia is readily visible to anyone.

It is also a purpose of my invention to provide a calendar having calendar indicia at one end of each sheet of the calendar and to provide a memorandum space at the opposite end of each sheet. The calendar and memorandum portions are separated by securing the sheets together intermediate the ends to provide a line of division between the calendar portion of the sheets and the memorandum portion thereof. This dividing line is so formed that the sheets may be opened up like a book on either side of the dividing line. The cover sheet, however, is preferably provided with a sealing or locking tongue or flap which folds over the backing sheet of the calendar to hold the memorandum portion of the calendar normally closed. An opening is formed through the sheets, the cover, the backing sheet, and the locln'ng flap so that when the calendar is supported on a nail or peg inserted through the opening, the memorandum portion of the sheets is held closed.

It is an object of my invention to provide a calendar having memorandum sheets which are permanently locked to a backing sheet and cover, while the calendar sheets forming one end of the memorandum sheets are attached along a perforated line and may be torn off at the end of each month. Accordingly at the end of the year the calendar sheets are all torn away but the memorandum sheets remain locked together to the backing and cover sheet and may be filed away for future reference.

These and other objects and novel features of my invention will be more clearly and fully set forth in the following specification and claims.

My calendar A comprises a-backing sheet ill, a series of sheets ll overlying the backing sheet ill, and a cover sheet l2. The backing sheet It is similar in size to the sheets II. -The cover sheet I2, however, is preferably somewhat longer than the sheets I0 and H and folds at 63 over the top edge of the sheets l0 and II, and is provided with a locking flap or tongue M overlying the outer surface of the backing sheet It]. An opening i5 is provided through the cover sheet l2, the sheets H, the backing sheet In, and the flap i l. The calendar A may be supported by inserting a nail or peg through the opening it.

The backing sheet Ill is formed of relatively stiff material and is not perforated or scored at any point between the ends thereof. The sheet it accordingly provides a reinforcement for the sheets ll and acts to stiffen the entire calendar. The sheets II are formed in two separate portions and comprise a calendar portion l6 bear ing suitable indicia to designate the days of the month, the days of the week, or other calendar designation as indicated at H in Figure 1 of the drawing. The upper portions ill of the sheets H are provided with memorandum indicia which is not shown in the drawing, as this indicia may vary considerably with the use for which the calendar is given. For example, the upper portions l8 of the sheets I! may contain forms whereby the expenses of the month may be budgeted, where appointments may be noted, or where other important information may be kept which is not to be seen by the public eye. The memorandum portions I8 also provide a very desirable space for advertising purposes, as one side of each sheet may readily be printed with advertising matter or information of general interest to the user of the calendar.

The sheets H are divided by a perforated line ill at the top of the calendar portion it of the sheets, so that at the end of each month the sheet designating the days of that month may be torn off and discarded without affecting the mounting of the remainder of the sheets.

The cover sheet I2 is preferably scored along a line 20 which is directly above the line of perforation l9, and is also scored along the line 21. The scored lines 20 and 2! are preferably parallel and spaced slightly apart. Staples 22 extend through the cover sheet i 2, the sheets II, and the backing sheet [0 to hold the various sheets in proper relationship. The staples 22 extend through the cover sheet I2 in the area thereof between the scored lines 20 and 2|. Obviously the lower portion of the cover sheet I2 below the scored line 20, may be easily folded along the line 20 for observation of the calendar portion I6 of the sheets II, or may be folded along the scored line 2! so that this cover may be folded back to display access to the upper memorandum portions I8 of these sheets II. As the staples 22 extend through the sheets II above the perforated line I9, it may be seen that when the calendar portions I6 of these sheets arev torn away at the end of a month, this operation does not aifect the mounting of the upper portions l8 of the sheets II and the entire sheets I I with the exception of the torn away calendar portions I6, are still securely bound to the cover sheet I2 and to the backing sheet I0.

The cover sheet I2 may be provided with a printed picture printed directly thereon, or mounted on the surface thereof as disclosed at 24 in Figure 1. Any other suitable indicia or advertisement may be placed upon the cover sheet I2 if desired. 7

Figure 3 of the drawing discloses a slightly different form of construction of calendar.. This type of calendar is designated B in the drawing and comprises a cover sheet 25, as well as sheets I I and a backing sheet Ii] in the form disclosed in Figures 1 and 2. It will be noted that in this construction, however, the cover sheet 25 is attached to the superimposed sheets such as I 0 and II by means of staples 26 extending through an area 21 between a scored line 28 and a perforated line 29. In this form of construction the lower extremity 3B of this cover sheet 25 may be torn away along the perforated line 29 to expose the outermost calendar portion I6 of the sheets II. In other Words, the construction disclosed in Figure 3 is similar to that illustrated in Figure 1 with the exception that the perforated line 29 is substituted for the scored line 26.

The operation of my device is believed clearly apparent from the foregoing description. The lower portion of each of the sheets I I may be torn away from month to month whereas the upper portions I8 of the same are permanently mounted between the cover sheet I2 and the backing sheet l0. By removing the calendar A from its supporting nail or peg extending through the opening I 5, the cover flap may be bent back along the scored line 2! or 28 providing access to the memorandum portions I8 of the sheets II. As the sheets II are preferably formed of relatively thin material, the sheets fold readily for providing access to each of the various sheets.

In accordance with the patent statutes, I have described the principles .of construction of my calendar and while I endeavor to have it understood that the modifications illustrated and described are representative of my invention, I desire to have it understood that obvious changes may be made within the scope of the following claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.

I claim:

1. A calendar comprising a backing sheet, a series of sheets overlying said backing sheet, a' line of perforations dividing each sheet of said endar indicia, and means extending through the lower edge of the upper of said sections for securing said sheets together in the other of said sections adjacent said line of perforations.

3. A calendar including a backing sheet, a series of sheets overlying said backing sheet each sheet of said series being divided along a per forated line into upper and lower large divisions, and means extending through the lower edge of the upper division of said sheets adjacent said line of perforations and on the upper side thereof for holding said series of sheets and said backing sheet together. 7

4. A calendar comprisinga backingsheet, a seriesof sheets overlying said backing sheet, a line of perforations in each of said sheets dividing each sheetinto two sections one of said sections comprising a memorandum portion and the other of said sections comprising a calendar portion, a cover sheet overlying said series of sheets, and means extending through said cover and backing sheets and through the memorandum portion of said series of sheets to secure said sheets together.

5. A calendar comprising a backing sheet, a series of sheets overlying said baclnng sheet, said sheets being divided along a perforated line into two sections, a cover sheet overlying said series of sheets, a scored line in said cover sheet above said perforated line, a second scored line in said cover sheet spaced from and parallel to said first named scored line, and means interposed between said scored lines securing said cover sheets, said series of sheets, and said backing sheet together in superimposed relation.

6. A calendar comprising a backing sheet, a series of superimposed sheets overlying said backing sheet each sheet of said series being divided similarly by a perforated line into two. sections, a cover sheet overlying said series of sheets, a scored line in said cover sheet adjacent said perforated lines,.a second scored line in said cover sheet spaced from and parallel to said first scored line, means between said scored lines for securing said sheets together, and a closing flap on said cover sheet overlapping a portion of said backing sheet at one end thereof.

7. A calendar comprising a backing sheet, a series of sheets overlying said backing sheet, a cover sheet overlying said series of sheets, a perforated line similarly dividing each sheet of said series and said cover sheet into two sections, means adjacent'said perforated lines securing all of said sheets together and a scored line in said cover sheet spaced from and parallel to said perforated line therein and disposed on the opposite side of said securing means.
