CALENDAR AND DIARY PAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16, 1922.
Application filed September 1, 1921. Serial No. 497,635.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES FREDERICK LEWIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendar and Diary Pages; and I do hereby declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description 0 the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art it appertains to make and use the The and diaries but is not, in its application, limited thereto.
It -is well known that most diaries and calendars are manufactured to cover a single year only, and this is particularly true of the former and of what are generally termed desk or memorandum calendars. One year calendars and diaries ordinarily are printed in the year preceding that in which they are intended to be used and offered for sale durin the latter part of the year in which printe so that their use will begin with the new year. The need for a calendar or a diary is not necessarily concurrent with the first of January. By purchasing a one year calendar or diary at any time after January 1 of the year for which intended, the buyer secures but a fractional part of a years service therefrom, and the seller must reduce his price with the decreasing usefulness of the device. If the calendar or diary is not disposed of before the end of the year for which it is printed, it becomes valueless.
The primary object of my invention, therefore, is to provide a calendar or diary which, no matter in what month it is bought, will have a year of usefulness. Secondary to this, my invention affords facilities for ascertaining with certainty the day of the week of the current date, and the day of the week of future or past dates. These, and the provision in a calendar or diary of usefulness extending over more than one year, and such same.
other objects as may hereinafter appear,
are attained by the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and claimed. Reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specificatiomwhereln the figure is a representation of a diary page or calendar sheet,
showing one embodiment of my invention.
Throughout the description which foldiary sheet are indicated to which present invention relates to calendars shown, the calendar lows and in the drawing referred to above, the several parts of the calendar page or by like reference characters.
The ordinal represents a page of a diary, or sheet of a calendar, of the usual rectangular shape, and whose margins are indicated by 2. Each day of the year is represented by a similar page or sheet. For illustrative purposes, as indicated by the drawing, August 5th is the date selected to show the invention, the page or sheet therefor having that date prominently displayed. in its upper left-hand corner, as indicated by 3, and, additionally,
at the bottom thereof, at 4.
Adjacent to the printing the days of the week upon which that date falls ina number of consecutive years, are shown at 5; the years, indicated by the ordinal 6, to which related being in juxtaposition and in. alignment therewith.
It is manifest that the printing described above may be arranged upon the sheet or page topermit of any desired binding. A calendar having sheets or a diary having pages such as have been described may be purchased at any time during the first year indicated therein (1921) and have more of usefulness ahead of it. The top line of 5 of each page indicates the day of the week upon which that date falls during 1921. At the beginning of the year 1922, by turn :ing back to the page for January 1., the sheets or pages not used, as of 1921, become available. Each sheet indicates by the second line of 5 the day of the week upon which that date falls in that year. In the figure or diary pages would, of course, be useful for a whole year, if purchased at any time before January 1, 1925.
While a maximum usefulness for five years is indicated in the particular embodiment supplied of the date at 3,
year or The pages or sheets are of uniform design each day in the year, except for February 29,
and a series of years with the day of the week on which the said date of the month comes in said years relatively indicated adjacent to said years.
3. In a calendar or diary, a sheet having indicated thereon a given date of the month and a series of years with the day of the week on which the said date of the month comes in said years relatively indicated adjacent to said years, thevsaid date of the month in holder type then the type oi the remainder of the said page.
4. In a calendar or diary, a sheet having indicated thereon a given date of; the month and a series of years with the day of the week on which the said date of the month comes in said years relatively indicated adjacent to said years, the said date of the month indicated in juxtaposition to said series.
5. A sheet for a diary or desk calendar, having thereon in consecutive order a numher of years, and in association with said years, a date of a month, and in conjunction with said years and said date, the name of the day of the week in which the said date falls in each of the said years.
6. In combination in a diary or calendar, a late, a series of consecutive years, and associated indicia whereby to determine the name of the day of the week upon which said date falls in each of said consecutive years.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. CHARLES FREDERICK LEWIS.
