This invention relates to improvements in blank 'or record books of the; type usedfor noting'appointments.
The primary object of the present inven- 5 tion is to-provide' an appointment book of a;
character, wherein the user thereof "may see at a glance what appointments'have been made for a fullweek ahead and the time allotted to each."
. Another objectotthe invention is to provide an appointment book wherein the pages thereof are separated into groups each representin'g' a period of one week or more i as fde-- sired andeach having a time "chart at its outer'longitudinal edge, the'pages of each group; being of -progressi'vely greater width from'the first to the last thereof so that" all of thejtime charts'are exposed 'to view.
Still another obje'ct of the invention is to provide, inaddition to the foregoin sheets or pages separating the groups 0 pages,
which separating pages project above the groups and have calendar charts formedthereacross, each dayrepres'ented on the char't ialigning with a time column of one' of the adjacent pages. I
The invention will be best understood from aconsideration ofthe following detailed description taken in connection with the ac-f companying drawings forming part of this specification, with the understanding how ever, that the invention'is not c n e'dto any strict conformity with the showing 'of the drawings but maybe changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departureifrom the salient featuresofw the invention as expressed in the appended claims;
In the drawings 40 Figure 1' is a plan view of the device embodying the present invention.
F gure-2 is ya transverse sectional 'view therethroughshowingthe relation of the a. 'm. to ninepl'. m.,the Interval between being leavesof a unit thereof.
Referrin'g more particularly to thedrawings' wherein like numerals of reference indicateicorresponding'parts throughout the several views, there is shown and indicated by the numeral 1 a book of :the loose leaf type in which the groups of pages hereinafter described and representing the present invent-ionmay be removably secured, one of each groups being indicated generally by the numeral 2'and'shown in position in the book on the usual'holding rings 3.
' While I have shown and will describe my invention as in a loose leaf "book it is, of course, to be understood that I do not wish to be limited in any manner to this construc- I tion'for it will be readily obvious that the 3 present inventionmay be manufactured in the form of a bound book.
In carrying outthe present inventlon there is providedinhloose leaf form or in bound form as desired" a book comprising a number 5 of groups of pages suchas isindicated by the numeral 2; Each of these groups of pages. consists of seven ruled'transversely and v'ertically ruledsheets 4 and a backing calendar sheet 5; i 1 I As shown the ruled sheets are of progressively greater width from the 'top'to the bottom-one thereof and each has formed adjacent its outer longitudinal margin a heavy line 6 forming acolumn 7 which at its upper end is connected by a transverse line 8 and'intermediate thistransverse line and the lower edge thereof the sheetis crossed by the transversely ruled lines-9 so that the column 7 as shown isdivided up into a series of spaces each'looated at the outer end of a line 9. This column 7 on each page is headed by the word time and over this is placed the name of a' day as shown; Under the word time in the column 7 numerals are placed which indicate certain time periodsof the day shown, which time periods may cover aspan of any numberjot hours as for example from eight" divided into lfhour periods as shown. Of 00 course, the time periods shown are only arbitrarily selected to illustrate the use of the book and may be provided with any other time periods to suit the wishes of the user. From the foregoing it will be readily seen that each of the ruled lines of each sheet 4:, over which ruled lines the word name may be placed to indicate the name of the person with whom an appointment has been made, has a certain time period placed at the end thereof so that, as will be obvious, when a name is written on one of the lines 9 the time at the right hand side thereof will indicate the hour for which an appointment has been made.
At the left hand side of each of the sheets at vertical columns 10 and 11 are formed which may be headed on the same line with the word name, with the words debit and credit so that these items may be noted as necessary beside the name or names on the page of persons with whom appointments have been or are to be kept.
By forming the sheets 4 of progressively increasing widths, the increase in width of one sheet over that lying thereabove being equal to the width of the time column 7 it will be seen that the time columns of all seven sheets will be exposed to view at one time while the names on the sheets, with the exception of the top sheet, will be covered. If desirable a blank sheet 12 may be provided to cover all but the time column of the top one of the group of appointment sheets so that everyone of these sheets will have the names thereon hidden but will have the columns exposed to view.
The back or calendar sheet 5 of each of the groups 2 is, as shown, of slightly greater length than the sheets 4 so that it projects above the same in the manner shown. This projecting portion of the calendar sheet5 has the month of the year indicated thereon and also seven days of a week of that month, the date of each day being placed directly above the time column of a sheet 4, the upper end of each time column having the corresponding name of the day of the week placed therein. From this it will be seen that a glance at the top of the group of sheets will show the month, the date of any one of the days of one week thereof and the name of each day corresponding to the dates shown.
For convenience in locating any particular weekly group of sheets in the book each of the calendar sheets may be provided at a point on its longitudinal edge with a proj ecting tab 13 on which may be printed the dates of the first and last days of the group of sheets lying thereover together with the proper months, as shown.
From the foregoing it will be readily appreciated that in the use of an appointment book constructed in accordance with the present invention a great amount of time can be saved in determining what periods ahead are taken up by appointments and what periods are open, the preferred method of using the appointment book being to draw a line through the time allotted to each person with whom an appointment is made, in the manner indicated by the numeral 14. In this way a glance at a weekly group of appointment sheets will show instantly what time periods for the week have not been taken up.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. An appointment record of the character described, comprising a group of sheets of progressively increasing width providing a longitudinaly extending exposed portion of each, lines dividing the exposed portion of each sheet into a column of areas having time periods noted therein, the top of each column having a day of the week noted therein, and a calendar sheet forming the back orbottom sheet for said group and having a portion of the top extending above the first mentioned sheets with indicia thereonv indicating a month and the dates of days thereof corresponding to and located above the days noted in the time columns of the overlying sheets.
- 2. An appointment record of the character described, comprising a group of sheets of progressively increasing width providing a longitudinally extending exposed portion of each, lines dividing the exposed portion of each sheets into a column of areas having time periods noted therein, the top of each column having a day of the week noted therein, and a calendar sheet forming the back or bottom sheet for said group and having a portion of the top extending above the first mentioned sheets with indicia thereon indicating a month and the dates of days thereof corresponding to and located above the days noted in the time columns of the overlying sheets, said calendar sheet having formed at one edge a projecting tab having noted thereon the month and period thereof covered by the dates indicated at the top of the calendar sheet.
3. An appointment record, consisting of a group of sheets of gradually increasing width from one outer one of the group to the other thereof so that each will have a portion along a longitudinal edge exposedto view, and a calendar sheet forming a back of each group and being of greater length than the same and having a portion of the top extended above the group of sheets, said calendar sheet bearing designations adjacent the top, above and aligning with the exposed portions of the sheets to facilitate the use of the sheets.
4. An appointment record consisting of a plurality of shets forming a group, said sheets being of different Widths and so arranged that each has a portion exposed to view along one edge, a plurality of lines ruled transversely of each sheet forming notation areas, a line ruled longitudinally of each sheet at the inner side of the exposed area thereof,
and a backing sheet for the group of sheets and of greater length than the same, providing an exposed top portion viewable above the group and bearing designations respectively aligned with the said exposed portions of the sheets of the group,
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my I signature.
