Description

A. SHENFI ELD.
SUSPENDERS.
No. 191,184. v Patented m 22,1877. 1
UNITED STATES PATENT EEIQE ABRAHAM SHENFIELD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN S USPENDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l9 1.184, dated May 22, 1877; application filed April 13, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ABRAHAM SHENFIELD, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification:
Suspender-ends have been made of flat braided cord, laid around to form a loop, and united longitudinally, leaving a button-hole at the end, as seen in Letters Patent No. 169,855, granted to me.
My present invention is an improvement upon the aforesaid invention and patent; and it consists in a suspender-end made of a flat braided cord laid together double to form a loop and button-hole at one end, and crossed one or more times and attached at the points of crossing, .so that the risk of the buttonhole ripping or enlarging will be lessened.
The Suspender-end will be rendered more elastic than heretofore, because the braid will be crossed diagonally, and the strain will tend to draw the braid into a straight line, and the appearance of the suspenderend will be rendered more ornamental.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of the Suspender-ends adapted to the front ends of thesuspender. Fig.2is a view of the ends as adapted to the back of the suspender, andFig. 3 is a section at the line a w.
The flat braided cord 0 is of suitable material and size, and it is of a length sufficient to be bent double to form the button-hole a at the end, and the braided cord is laid flat- Wise, the parts passing over and across one another, as at b, where they are united firmly by sewing. The ends of the cord are received by and secured Within 7 the leather headpieces at d, as in the aforesaid patent, and these head pieces d are connected by the buckle or frame 6 with the suspender in any desired manner.
In Fig. 2 thecord 0 is open between the crossing-point b and the headpiece d, as seen at f; or the adjacent edges may be sewed together, as at g; or the flat braided cords may be crossed once or more times between the crossing-point b and the head-piece d, as seen in Fig. 1.
The suspender-end is rendered stronger, more elastic, and its appearance improved by the flat braided cord being crossed and attached as aforesaid.
I claim as my invention The suspender-end made of a flat braided cord, bent double and crossed to form abutton-hole at the end, and the cord secured together at the crossing by stitches, substantially as set forth.
Signed by me this 10th day of April, 1877.
ABRAHAM SHENFIELD.
