CIGARETTE AND CIGAR HOLDER Filed May 29,- 1930 Patented May 16, 1933 STATES kit aw GAE'BANO CALTABIANO, OF WVALLI'NGTON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR '].0 ANDREW FOULDS, 31%., F PASSAIC, NEW JERSEY CIGARETTE AND CIGAR HOLDER Application filed May 29, 1930. Serial No. 456,851.
My invention relates to improvements in holders for cigarettes, cigars and the like, and the object of my invention is to produce a device of the character specified contalnmg means for eliminating dust and carbon particles from the smoke drawn therethrough and otherwise purifying and cooling the smoke.
A. preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing,
in which,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the preferred form of my improved holder with a cigarette therein,
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail thereof, and Figure 3 is a cross-section on the line 33 in Figure 2.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The preferred embodiment of my invention illustrated in the drawing, comprises a holder or stem composed of a mouthpiece section 1 and a holder section 2 united by a telescoping joint 3. The holder section 2 is cut out or otherwise shaped interiorly in the usual manner to receive and hold a cigarette or the like 4.
Within the holder is provided a chamber 5 from which a smoke duct 6 leads through the holder section 2 to the cigar or cigarette and a second smoke duct 7 leads from the chamber 5 through the mouthpiece 1.
Within the chamber 5, is provided a hollow shell 8 having its outer wall 9 spaced from the inner wall 10 of the chamber 5 and provided with an inlet orifice 11 in its side wall. A hollow quill or stem 12 is inserted in the shell 8 and extends beyond the orifice 11 thereof. The stem 12 may be longitudinally positioned within the shell 8 by a suitable gasket or packing 13. The stem 12 is of such size as to firmly seat within the smoke duct 7 of the section 1.
The device being thus assembled, the smoke from the burning tobacco will be drawn through the duct 6 to the chamber 5 and will pass thence by a tortuous passage through the orifice 11 to the interior of the shell 8 from which it will be drawn through the quill or stem 12 to the duct 7.
The walls of the shell 8 and stem 12 will act as baffles in the passage of the smoke, dust and carbon, and solid products of combustion will be deposited in the chamber 5 and shell 8 thus purifying the smoke.
To clean the device, the sections 1 and 2 are drawn apart or separated and the quill 12 carrying the shell 8, is then withdrawn from the duct 7. The quill 12 may then be withdrawn from the shell 8 and the parts, thus separated, may be conveniently washed and cleaned and the parts reassembled as above described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
In a device of the character described, a hollow mouth-piece section forming a duct, a quill seated in said duct and secured therein by friction alone, a hollow shell having a side opening intermediate its ends, a gasket at the base of the shell, secured to said quill and holding the said quill and the said shell in spaced relation, and a chambered holder section secured to the mouthpiece section and enclosing said shell with its walls spaced therefrom, whereby is formed a tortuous passage for the passage of smoke.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
GAETANO GALTABIANO.
