Description

May 2, 1933. SiAMF-OS I 1,907,271
CIGARETTE Filed July 16, 1931 INVENTOR. TkEEFO/V S/AMPos Patented May 2, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application filed July 16, 1931. Serial No. 551,221.
This invention relates to cigarettes and has for its object the production of a simple and eflicient means for producing a cigarette which will not become moist at the end thereof when placed in the mouth.
One of the most important objects of the present invention is the roduction of a simple and eflicient tip for cigarettes which may be either molded or slipped over the end of the cigarette, and which may be made of light transparent, or any suitable or con venient material.
Other objects of the invention will appear throughout the following specification and claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cigarette showing the tip attached thereto;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the cigarette showing the tip in section;
'Figure 3 is an end view of the tip;
Figure 4 is a view looking at the interior of the tip, showing a modified form thereof;
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view through the form of the tip shown in Figure 4; and
Figure 6 is a section of Figure 4.
By referring to the drawing, it will be seen that 1 designates the cigarette which is provided with a tip 2, which tip may be formed upon the cigarette by molding or dipping the cigarette into plastic or moldable material and after the end of the cigarette has been dipped, a suitable aperture or vent 3 may be formed by punching or perforating the end of the cigarette tip by means of a needle or other suitable instrument. This tip may be formed of light transparent, or in fact, any suitable or convenient or desirable gelatinous material which may be formed readily by dipping the end of the cigarette into the liquid material which will then harden around the end of the cigarette.
The structure shown in Figure 2 illustrates a tip 4 which is preferably molded and then slipped over the cigarette and this tip may be formed in any suitable or desired shape without departing from the spirit of the invention. The tip 4 preferably comprises an taken on line 66 elongated thimble-like structure having a closed end 5 which is provided with a vent opening 6 in the center thereof to permit the smoker to draw the smoke from the cigarette while smoking.
It should be understood that any suitable or desired number of apertures may be formed in the end of the tip 4 without departing from the spirit of the invention and the design or shape of the tip may be varied also without departing from the spirit of the invention. s
In Figures 4 5 and 6, I have shown a modified form of the invention wherein a tip 7 is employed of an elongated thimble-like body having a substantially closed end wall 8, and an outer end 9, into which outer end 9 the cigarette 10 is adapted to be placed. The end wall 8 is provided with a centrally located aperture 11 and upon the inner face of the end wall 8 are provided radially extending or radiating grooves or channels 12 all leading to the centrally located aperture 11. These channels 12 will direct all of the smoke from the end of the cigarette 10 down to the centrally located aperture 11 and facilitate the smoking of a cigarette. It should be understood that the tip 7 is preferably formed of material suflic'iently sturdy to prevent the deterioration tact with the lips of the smoker, and also prevent the moistening of the end of the cigarette while the cigarette is being smoked. It is not desired, however, to limit the particular material from which the device may be made in this articular application.
It should be further understood that certain detail changes in the mechanical construction may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
As a new article of manufacture, a tip for attachment to a cigarette comprising a thin thimble-like structure having a hollow body and an end wall, said end wall provided with a draft aperture formed therein, the inner face of said end wall being provided with radiating channels communicating with and extending from said aperture toward the side thereof by conwalls of said tip for conveying smoke from the side walls of the tip toward said central aperture and permitting a draft to be created over a maximum area of the inner end of a oi arette adapted to be inserted insaid tip.
11 testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
