Patented Jane 5, 1858.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL COHEN, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
HUSKING AND SHELLING GLOVE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 19,018, dated January 5, 1858.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, EMIL COHEN, of Washington, in the county of \Vashington andDistric't of Columbia, have invented a new article of inanufactu re-a Corn Husking and Shelling Glove; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, on which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of said glove. Fig. 2 represents the manner in which said glove is applied to the ear in the operation of husking.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the drawings.
A represents a glove, (a mitten or gauntlet may be used.) to the palm of which is secured a shield B, of leather, metal, or any other suitable material. From this shield extends a number of pins to in a direction which is perpendicular to the face of the shield, and consequently to the palm of the hand. In husking or shelling corn this glove is put on the right hand and the butt-end of the cornear is grasped firmly with the left. The teeth a are then forced into the husk by the pressu re of the hand upon them at the upper end of the corn-ear, as represented in Fig. 2, and by turning the right hand slightly the husk is opened and can be easilystripped from the cob.
\Vhen this glove is used for shelling, the teeth a are simply operated upon the car, which will effectually remove the corn. In both operations, husking as well as shelling, the hand is protected by the glove, and the operation can be performed effectually without injuring the nails or anypart of the hand, while the husking and shelling device can be secured to the hand by simply putting on the glove and is not liable to be moved or shifted on the hand during the operation.
Having thus fully described the nature of my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The husking and shelling glove, as described, as a new article of manufacture, when constructed and operated substantially in the manner and for the purposes as herein set forth.
E. COHEN.
