Renewed July 5, 1932.
The present invention relates to combina-v tion" tobacco cases and more particularly to a combined tobacco, match and cigarette paper case; l f
` An object of this invention is to provide a handy case which is so constructed as to hold a quantity of tobacco and a supply of matches and cigarette papers. V l
Another object of this inventionis to provide a case having a plurality of compartmentstherein, each' of the compartments holding the desired article therein against mixture with the yarticles in the adjoining or abutting compartments.`
yA further object offthis invention is to provide a case-having a relatively largetobacco compartment land a hinged match safe or compartment andin addition thereto the tobacco compartment is provided with a cigarette paper case', access to which may be had by swinging the match safe on its hinge. l e The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will linpart be described in and in part be understood from the following 'detailed description ofthe present preferred embodiment, the samebeing illustrated in Vthe accompanying drawing' wherein Figurewl is a detail front elevation of a device constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 ;V and y Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-4-3 of Figure 1;
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference vdesignate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally a tobacco case of 'desired size and configuration and the numeral '11 vdesignates afmatch safe or holder ywhich is hingedly mounted as at 12 on the upper or open end of the tobacco Vholder 10, the match holder 11 being provided with a 13 having an-overhanging lip vor member 14 for engagementin a depression or indentation 15 provided in the outer or front wall 16 of theholder 11.k
Acigarette paper holder generally designated as 17 comprises a relatively small casing which is secured to the inner wall of the tobacco case 10 and preferably secured to the inner surface of the front wall, the paper case 15 being openat the top thereof and the top. of the case 17 is preferably substantially Hush with the top of the case 10 so that when the match holder 15 is in closed position, the
top ofthe tobacco case 10 will be closed and coactively the top of the paper case 17 will be closed. l i
The front wall of the lower case 10 is provided with an upwardly openingy recess 18 and a hinged securing member 19 is adapted to 'substantially occupythe entire opening 18, the securing member 19 beingl provided with a lip 2O at the hinged edge portion therec of which is'adapted to extend inwardly of the paper case 17 and the upper or free end of the closure member 19 is also provided with a locking portion 21, the locking portion 21 being rpreferably formed by pressing the metal of the closure member 19 outwardly or turning the edge thereof over so as to provide an outstanding ridge which is adapted tosbe seated in an' indentation 22 which is provided ina depending lip or flange 23 on'the match case 11.
While it is a well known fact that Cases of various kinds have been constructed for use in holding tobacco and matches, these have not been "'so constructed as to permit the mounting of a paper receptacle therein so that all ofthe ingredients for the manufacture of aI cigarette may be carried in a single case. e Through the use of the case herein' disclosed, the desired quantityof tobacco 24 may be placed in the tobacco'case or a receptacle 10 and a quantity of matches 25 may e 'be positioned in the match holder 11.
Preferably, the holder 11 is ofa sulicient size so as to receive the conventional box of matchesfwhich are at present'available-fory `tobacco users but k1 of course do not wish to be limited to they relative size of the match case l1 as this case may be of any desired size depending only upon the style, size and quantity 4of matches which itisdes'ired to vplace therein.
In the present instance, the case y11 is of a size suicient to receive the normal box of matches in loose form.
The paper receptacle or case 17 is of a sufficient size so to receive the normal package of cigarette papers and when the papers are mounted therein, the front portion of the package of papers is preferably torn open so as to expose the papers through the opening 18 in the front wall of the case 10. In closed position, the hinged plate member 19 is normally in alignment with the front wail of the case 10 and is placed under tension and Vmaintained in tensioned condition by the depending flange 23 on the match receptacle 11.
W hen it is desir d to remove the tobacco Qivfrom the i0 the piate member 19 may b'e pressed inwardly by the thumb or finger thereby releasing. the locl-:ing portion 21 from the indentation Q2 and permitting the match safe 11 to be swung upwardly on the hinge 12. vWhen the match safe 11 has been swung upwardly, the plate 19 will be forced outwardly by the lip member 20 thereby erposing the papers 26 sothat they may be moved upwardiy and outwardly of the paper receptacie 1?.
it will be noted from the foregoing that the bottom 27 of the match safe 11 consti tutes the top or lid of the tobacco case 10.
` When it is desired to remove the matches from the match receptacle il the lid may be swung upwardly by forcing the locking or securing member let out of the indentation 15 thereby permitting the lid 13 to be swung upwardly on the hinge :28.
It will be obvious that aV relatively simple and at the same time practical combination tobacco, match and paperholder or case has been provided by means of which any desired 'quantity of material used by the tobacco user may be carried in a convenient and compact form and that all of the ingredients used in the manufacture and consumption of cigarettes may be easily and safely carried within the case so that they will not be subjected to injury or crushing in the pocket.
It is, `of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specically described embodiment of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
1. A combination case of the character described comprising a tobacco case having an open upper end, a match holder hingedly y mounted on said tobacco cas-e and adapted to close the open end of said tobacco case, a hinged lid'for said match holder, a cigarette paper casemounted on one wall of said tobacco case and extending inwardly thereof, and a hinged plate carried by said tobacco case and adapted to hold said match holder in closed position on said tobacco case, said plate when in opened position providing an opening in said paper case to facilitate removal of papers through the open end of the paper case.
