Application led November 19, 1931. Serial No. 576,004.

This invention relates to improvements in cigarette cases, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide a cigarette case equipped with a means for lighting a cigarette.

Another object of my invention is the provision of a cigarette case having a plurality of compartments for the reception and storage of cigarettes and matches conveniently removable from said case for use.

A further object of my invention is the provision of a combination cigarette case and igniter equipped with a movable match holder and yielding striker face and means to move a match in said holder against the striker face to light the same for igniting a cigarette.

A still further object of my invention is the provision of a combination cigarette case and igniter of simple construction, yet highly serviceable.

These and other objects of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more specifically defined in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:

Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section on line 1 1 of Figure 3, through a cigarette case constructed according to my invention.

Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the case, the section being taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the case on line 3-3 of Figure 1.

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of the case.

Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the cigarette case, closed.

As shown on the drawing, the casing 10 is closed on top by a bi-partite cover, the parts 11 and 12 of which are hingedly connected at their inner meeting edges, as at 13 and are provided with suitable grips 14, 15.

A vertical, longitudinally extending partition 16 divides the casing into two compartments 17, 18, the former for the reception of the cigarettes 19, while the latter is divided by a vertical cross-partition 2() into two compartments, the smaller 21, of which, contains a match holder 22 supplied with a match 23 from compartment 18, through an opening 24 in the cover 12, which has also an opening 25 for the introduction of a cigarette to be 5.5 lit.

The part of the cover 12 having the openings 24, 25, therein, has movably attached to its lower face a striker surface of plate 26 movably supported at one end, as at 27, and 6.0 yieldingly held in inclined position by means of a spring 28.

The match holder 22 rests at its lower end on the outer end of a plunger bar 29 in a compartment 30carrying a collar 31equippedwith .6.5 a handle 32 extending through a slot 33 in the bottom of the case, while a spring 34 wound about bar 29 tends to carry matchholder 22 below the striker surface 26 while the handle 32 is normally held locked by its engagement 70 in the angularly disposed branch 35 of the slot 33 with the spring tensioned.

The device operates as follows:

If it is desired to light a cigarette 19 taken from compartment 17, and introduced into4 compartment 21 through opening 25, a match from compartment 18 is placed through opening 24 into the holder 22, and if now the same by means of the handle 32 is quickly moved against the striker 26, the match will be. $0 ignited and light the cigarette. The burnt match is then removed through any of the openings 24, 25, by simply turning the case upside down.

It will be understood that I have described S5 and shown the preferred form of my device only, and that I can make such changes therein as come within the scope of the appended claims without departure from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A combination cigarette case andl lighter, having a cover with a number of openings, a striker surface, a match holder adjacent said surface, and means for carryingr a match introduced into said holder through one of the cover openings against.`

said striker to ignite a cigarette introduced through the other of the cover openings.

2. A combination cigarette case and lighter having a cover, and Comprising a striker surface, a match holder adjacent said surface, a rod supporting said holder, a collar and handle thereon for operating said rod, and a spring Wound about said rod between said collar and the case tending to proj ect a match against the striker surface, and means for normally locking said rod .and spring under tension. l
