Description

Nov. 22, 1932. E. 5. MIX 1,888,932
SHIRT HOLDDOWN ATTACHMENT FOR SUSPENDERS [filed Aug. 2, 1932 lamiv 0". Max,
Patented Nov. 22, 1932 UNETED STATES EDWIN S. MIX, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK SHIRT HOLDDOWN ATTACHMENT FOR- SUSPENDERS Application filed August 2, 1932. Serial No. 627,237.
The invention relates to a shirt hold down attachment for suspenders.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical and efficient shirt hold down attachment designed particularly for suspenders of the braid end type and adapted to present a neat and attractive appearance and capable of gripping a shirt in two places adjacent to the side portions of the trousers and of exerting a slight tension or pull on the shirt sufiicient to pull the shirt down and maintain the bosom thereof in a smooth, flat, unwrinkled condition.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simple means for securing the lower ends of the members of the attachment to the suspenders and to enable the members of the attachment to be fastened to the said suspenders by the means for securing the braid ends to the tabs with which the braid ends are connected.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and set forth in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and mnor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of suspenders provided with a shirt hold down attachment constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a portion of one side of the suspenders.
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
In the accompanying drawing is illustrated a pair of suspenders 1 having braid ends 2 and leather tabs 3 which connect the braid ends 2 with a metal loop 4 but the tab 3 may be constructed of any other suitable material, as will be readily understood. The tab 8 is folded to form inner and outer sides and a connecting portion 5 which is linked into the metal loop 4;, as clearly illustrated in V Fig. 3 of the drawing.
- The upper terminals of the braid suspender ends 2 are secured between the front and rear sides of the tab 3 by lines of stitching 6. The tab 3 is preferably tapered as shown and the lines of stitching follow the side edges of the tab to approximately the connecting portion and extend across the tab below the connecting portion forming a loop to receive the metal hook 4.
The shirt hold down attachment comprises two upwardly converging elastic members 7 consisting of strips of elastic material provided at their upper ends with suitable shirt engaging means preferably consisting of gar ter loops 8 and buttons 9, but any other suit able shirt gripping or engaging device may, of course, be employed. The lower ends 10 of the elastic members extend through inclined slits 11 in the rear sides 12 of the tabs 3 and are secured between the front and rear sides of the tabs by the lines of stitching 6 which secure the braid ends of the suspenders to vthe tabs. This method of attaching the elastic members of the shirt hold down device enables the suspenders at the inner sides of the tabs to present a flat, neat appearance and the said lines of stitching constitute ample means for securing the elastic members to the suspenders.
What is claimed is:
1. Suspenders having braid ends and provided with connecting tabs folded to form inner and outer sides between which the braid ends are secured, the inner sides of the tabs having slits, and a shirt hold down attachment comprising elastic members consisting of strips of elastic material extending upwardly from the said slits and having their lower ends extended through the same and secured between the sides of the tabs, and means carried by the upper ends of the elastic members for engaging a shirt whereby a downward pull in two directions is exerted on the shirt and the bosom thereof held down and maintained in a smooth, flat, unwrinkled condition.
2. Suspenders having braid ends and provided with connecting tabs folded to form 100 inner and outer sides between which the braid ends are secured, said tabs being provided with marginal rows of stitching and having slits located within the marginal rows of stitching, and a shirt hold down attachment comprising elastic members consisting of strips of elastic material extending upwardly from the said slits and having their lower ends extended through the slits and secured between the sides of the tabs, and means carried by the upper ends of the elastic members for gripping the fabric of a shirt whereby the said attachment is adapted to exert a downward pull on the shirt in two directions for holding the bosom in a smooth, flat, unwrinkled condition.
3. Suspenders having braid ends and provided with connecting tabs folded to form inner and outer sides receiving the braid ends between them, the inner sides of the tabs being provided with inclined slits and having rows of marginal stitching located beyond the slits, a shirt hold down attachment comprising elastic members consisting of strips of elastic material converging upwardly from the said slits and having their lower ends eX- tended through the slits and secured between the sides of the tabs, and means carried by the upper ends of the elastic members for gripping the fabric of a shirt whereby the attachment is adapted to exert a downward pull on the shirt in two directions for holding the bosom in a smooth fiat unwrinkled condition. y
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand. EDWIN S. MIX.
