CHARLES V. RICHARDS, OF GARLAND, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND FRANK W. SWAN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SKIRT-SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 88,675, dated March 20, 1877; application filed January 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES V. RIGH- ARDS, of Garland, inithe county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Skirt-Supporter, of which the following is a specification:
'Figure 1 is a front elevation.- -Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line .00 a: in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates lo a device for attach ment to shoulder-straps for supporting skirts; and it consists of a rectangular plate of metal, to one end of which an oblong loop is attached, and to theother end is attached a wire loop, upon which a pin is formed, that is I engaged by a slide on the rectangular plate.
coils formed on the end of the part 1), beyond which it is bent upward, forming the pin 0, which is pointed, and which overlaps the plate A. D is a slide, made of sheet metal, and placed on the plate A, so as to slide longitndinally thereon. It is bent outward slightly at its center. to receive the point of the pin over which it slides.
The loop Bis attached to the shoulder-strap, and the pin is made to engage with the skirt by releasing it from the slide D, and turning it outward, inserting it into the fabric of the skirt, and returning the point through the same surface through which it entered, and placing it parallel with the plate A, and moving the slide D over its point.
The advantages claimed for the invention are, that it will not accidentally become loosened, it will not wear holes in garments placed over it, and it is simple, cheap, and easily applied.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A skirt-supporter consisting of the plate A, loop B, loop C, having formed upon it the pin 0, and the slide D, combined and arranged substantially as shown and described.
CHARLES VIRGIN RICHARDS.
